[.ca] The Oak Island Affair, a Novel (ISBN 0978942760)

The Oak Island Affair:
From the very first pages, this book was intriguing. I was caught up in the story right away from the descriptive commentary from the author. It reminded me of my summer holidays at the cottage reading Nancy Drew mysteries. This story is for more mature readers. It takes off from the beginning with two stories intertwining from the present with Vanessa and her friend to the past connected to a hidden treasure from Brother Bart over four hundred years ago. The pages switch back and forth in an easy style from the present to a diary that Vanessa has found. This book held my interest to the last page. An easy read but very well written and intense.

The Oak Island Affair:
Bow strikes a fascinating balance between adventure and spirituality in this compelling novel about a little known but amazing subject. The story weaves powerful myth and archetype together with an exciting history, as the narrative rolls on through scenes of extraordinarily detailed action. I read this on my bus trips home from work, every evening hoping my commute would be longer so I could have more time with the book. It is impossible not to freeze, search, and hope along with Vanessa.

The Oak Island Affair - A riveting read:
As a university student under the inundation of extensive textbook reading requirements as well as three jobs, it is very rare a novel will capture my attention and incredibly precious free time. Such a rare occurrence, often provoking thoughts that last well past cessation of the novel's last page, is highly cherished. The Oak Island Affair provided this highly sought after escape from reality. I found myself waking up well before my alarm to laugh, cry and learn over the pages. There is something so special about a book with the power to invoke such emotions. I found the combination of love, loss, mystery & our own Canadian history to be a fabulous page turner.
