Wonderfully outrageous and silly: A B.C. author who needs no introduction to the middle-school set is Polly Horvath, whose Everything on a Waffle and The Trolls are bestsellers. The Pepins and Their Problems is as silly as anything Horvath has ever written -- and that's saying something. Her dryly ridiculous tone will have kids in hysterics, and the plain outrageous antics of the Pepins and their two neighbours, kind Mr. Bradshaw and evil Miss Poopenstat, just don't quit. Whether it's lemonade from the cow or purple cottage cheese in the laboratories of Bradshaw's Unusual and Extraordinary Snack Products, there's something for everyone. As Mr. Pepin concludes: "I'm sure we all have our snack product preferences. I personally always find it nice to be sitting next to a table lamp, feel a bit peckish, and discover a snack product ready to be unscrewed. But that's just me."
