What a ride!: My only complaint about this book is that it's too short! Jeremy is an excellent writer and the humor he's injected into his story had me rolling on the floor. Guaranteed to make food come out of your nose if read while eating. Can't wait for another book from this fine young author.
Positive Feedback: Here's what others are saying about "Motorcycle Therapy." "With humour that's reminiscent of Bill Bryson's best, Kroeker discovers that you can't leave yourself behind - but it's sure fun trying." -Chris Scott, author of "Adventure Motorcycling Handbook" "Kroeker has a keen wit and humorous turn of phrase that makes reading about his adventures extremely enjoyable." -Matt Jackson, Author of "The Canada Chronicles" "A great read, and not just if you're into motorcycle travel." -Grant Johnson, HorizonsUnlimited.com "...very entertaining read, you won't be disappointed." -Glenn Roberts, "Motorcycle Mojo Magazine"
Close, but no cigar: Overall, this book was entertaining but disappointing. The premise -- a young Canadian man loses his girlfriend, buys a used Kawasaki 650 dual-sport motorcycle, and with an acquaintance he has little in common with, rides to Central America. If anything, it's a good rationalisation if you want a reason to discourage you from taking this trip, with multiple border crossings, each designed to rip off the tourist and make life a bureaucratic and corrupt nightmare. It's a lesson in why the only true test of friendship is to travel with someone in demanding circumstances, as the author and his travelling companion are a mismatched pair. Some of the incidents and events are funny, some are tiresome. I could develop little empathy for the author or his adventues, even though the events described are not fiction. The model for this type of "road book" is Ted Simon's Jupiters Travels, which recounted his trip around the world, and gave an insight into the countries visited and the author's troubled personality. Kroeker tries hard and is sincere, but it falls short of the mark to be a memorable book. This is a book that will appeal to motorcycle travellers, but we will read anything we can get our hands on.
A fun read...: I have been reading through various motorcycle adventures during the past few weeks and was pleasantly surprised by this slender tome. I found myself laughing out loud at the situations described by Kroeker. Some photographs would have been worth one more star. Definitely something I am recommending to others...
