[.ca] Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (ISBN 1557830665)

The Demon Review of Fleet Street!:
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street: A Musical Thriller" is perhaps the most intense dark comedy ever. The musical is not intended for those of the weak at heart. The musical is about a mad Barber who wants nothing but revenge on the judge who unjustly transported him to a prison in Australia. Having lost his first chance at the Judge, he vows to murder any one who is a costomer. The Musical shows Sondheims power when it comes to moving music. This musical touches and dares to rattle the very foundation of society as the story becomes an example of how men do not kill because they want to, men becomes killers because they are programed to. The lyrics are incredeble and very realistic... I dare even say, as I sit here writing this, I can still hear the acute shrilling of the factory whistle and from a distance Sweeney inviting me to sit on his chair.

The pinnacle of Sondheim's Art:
In 1979, Stephen Sondheim had a long and illustrious career on the Broadway stage, with "Company", "Follies", and "A Little Night Music" to his credit. "Sweeney Todd" capped that career with an extraordinarily inspired score, ably seconded by Hugh Wheeler's insightful and clever book. A triumph on all counts.

Sondheim's Best.:
It was so wonderful to buy this book and to have the entirity of the musical right at my finger tips word for word. It's truly one of the best musicals ever concocted and Sondheim is a genius. I reccomend this to everyone whose a fan of the show.. if you're not familiar with the show, it might seem a little strange to you..

Incredible!:
The music is amazing, the book is incredible, the story is haunting; these are all things credited to make this musical spectacular. Sweeny Todd tells the story of revenge, love, death, and ofcoarse pies. Sweeny Todd is a Barber who seeks revenge on all man kind. Mrs Lovett is his assistant who hides the evidence, in her delicious meat pies. "Have you seen the Priest?" asked the Judge. "No, I havent." replied the Beadle Bamford smaking his lips. "By the way judge have you tasted this delicious PRIEST PIE."

A delightful dark musical comedy.:
This show is not for all tastes. If you are a fan of Stephen Sondheim...or even if you are not you will find this show moves you and makes you feel for the man society usually portrays as the villain through the media. This is a script to a show about a barber who was exiled to Australia by a Judge and his Beadle and who returns to take his revenge. The original show starred the amazing Len Cariou and the always fabulous Angela Lansbury. This is not your "Sound of Music" and other very happy musicals. This is very mature but awesome and intelligent...and FEELING.
