My Favorite Bread Machine Companion: Of all the bread machine books I own, this is hands down my favorite. The cozy, small size has a lot to do with it to start, and to end - the fabulous recipes! I haven't been disappointed yet. This would make a great gift for someone who is just starting out with a bread machine.
Great things come in small packages!: Although I have several bread machine cookbooks today, this was my first. My copy is so dog-earred that it's falling apart. Although the book is small, it is jam packed with a huge variety of tasty recipes that are surprisingly easy. If you only buy one bread book-this would be a great choice.
A recipe for every taste: My boyfriend and I recently moved to the U.S. from Germany, where all kinds of fresh, healthy baked breads are readily available for an affordable everyday price. When I got my Breadman machine out of my mom's attic, my boyfriend looked at it skeptically and muttered something about how tough it would be living in the States. Well, this book made us both bread machine believers. It has recipes to suit both our tastes with easy to read tables for different size loaves. It has the whole, health-food grain and nutty recipes (with buckwheat, amaranth, barley) I like as well as the crusty white, rye, and whole wheat ones he prefers. The author also gives tips on additives to make the bread denser or lighter depending on your preference. Every single recipe has worked beautifully.
If you buy only one -: This is the one to buy. This little book is absolutely the best out of the plethora bread machine cookbooks available. I love cookbooks, I love bread, I love my bread machine. I own six bread machine cookbooks, I've checked out a couple of dozen more from various libraries, I've pored over new ones in the bookstores. This is the one I reach for over and over and over again when I am ready to bake bread (and the next two runner-ups are the Bread Machine Cookbook II and the Bread Machine Cookbook III). The recipes are basic - white bread, wheat bread, rye bread, and progress with variations, through sourdoughs and simple dough recipes - hamburger buns, etc. Other editions will bring you the fancier and trickier breads. Master this one first; you will not be sorry.
Good Basic Book: Nice variety of good recipes! As noted elsewhere, high altitude requires adjustments. I have had to add liquid in every recipe, and will need to lower yeast in a couple to prevent top cave-in. Would like to see the discussion at the beginning of the book expanded. While very pleased with this book, I will probably try another author for my next purchase.
