From Amazon.com: Everything about The Quiet Little Woman: A Christmas Story by Louisa May Alcott is heartwarming, starting with the extraordinary tale of its origin. Alcott wrote the story for three girls who emulated Little Women's March sisters by founding their own literary publication, but the magazine was lost for many years; this story is now being published in book form for the first time. The Quiet Little Woman tells the story of Patty, a young girl living hopelessly in an orphanage, who is rescued at Christmas time by a kindly woman named Aunt Jane. Also collected in this small, beautiful (and not coincidentally, Christmas stocking-size) volume are two of Alcott's other holiday stories; one of them, "Rosa's Tale," is a really lovely fable about a horse who speaks at midnight on Christmas Eve.
not great: This book was really not that great. I remember reading one of the stories somewhere else, and the rest were rather predictable. Tilly's Christmas especially I thought was a complete waste of time. Patty's Christmas was O.K., but Patty is just too perfect to be believable. Rosa's story was the one I had read before, and it must have been somewhere else.
Not very good: I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter, a devoted Louisa May Alcott fan. We did not realize we already had the "newly discovered" Christmas story in another volume of collected writings by Louisa published many decades ago, and also that the story in question (retitled, for some reason, by the current editor) is not one of Louisa's better efforts - a formulaic Cinderella tale. I'd advise other would-be purchasers not to ignore, as I did, the scathing BOOKLIST review to be found on this page.
Heart Warming: This book is Heart Warming and is the perfect gift on Christmas! Three enchanting stories to make you laugh, cry, smile and enjoy for years! This book was very cool!!!
A tour de force! A rollicking rollercoaster ride!: I laughed, I cried, the feel-good book of the year
A touching gift for "Little Women" fans: This beautiful, gift-sized book is a wonderful collection of lost treasures, a perfect holiday gift for fans of Louisa May Alcott. Young girls should really enjoy these moving stories.
