Book Provides Excellent Supplementary Spelling Activities:
I am very pleased with the Doodle Loops Spelling: Creative Activities for Beginning Readers. It provides the extra practice so many children need, in a format that makes them feel successful. The word family approach is a great supplement to any spelling/reading program, and teachers or parents can choose the activities from the book that compliment the classroom curriculum. I especially like the fact that there are two separate pages/activities for each word family. First, the spelling patterns are made overt to the students. Then, they must apply what they have learned to a brief, fun story. Word families help 'make sense' of spelling, increasing student confidence and competence. This book is a great resource for any K-primary classroom. It's practical, easy to use, and most of all -- it's fun for the kids.
