SEE REVIEW OF CONTEMPORARY, COMPETING TITLE: "Best Wildflower Hikes in Washington", published by The Mountaineers Books, authored by Kruckeberg, Romano, Spring, Sykes. I give Charles Gurche's book an extra star (4 out of 5) over the Mountaineer's version. As each of these books treats areas differently and do not completely duplicate each other's chosen locations, I would recommend having both. However, Gurche's book is far more visually representative and satisfying - I believe his choice of "The Best" as more qualified than those listed in the Mountaineers book; his perspective is that of a nationally-reputed nature and landscape photographer. The Mountaineers book recommends locations I don't agree with, and what about "Skyline Divide" ? The Gurche book is also more suitable as a gift.
