[.ca] Eating for Acid Reflux: A Handbook and Cookbook for ... (ISBN 1569244928)

This book is a MUST for sufferers of acid reflux:
Whether you suffer from occasional heartburn or full-blown GERD, this book is your quintessential guide to living a healthier and happier life. It provides a perfect blend of facts and accessible insight for improving your quality of life. The book is presented in two very comprehensive sections. The first part deals primarily with the technical aspects of this debilitating disease. The medical information is very well written in plain English yet it conveys the latest in scientific knowledge about acid reflux. You'll have no trouble learning all there is to know and what you can do to ensure accurate diagnosis and successful treatment. This first section alone could be a bestseller given the millions of people who struggle with any form of this disease. The second part of the book is equally remarkable in its presentation. It offers easily followed, delicious recipes that have been created specifically to abate GERD. Best of all, most of the ingredients are already in your cupboard! Any of the appetizers, soups, salads, entrees and desserts will satisfy even the most discerning gourmet. Each recipe includes a brief introduction, concise directions and nutritional analysis. Banish the bland and start eating your way to health. If you thought you were doomed to a painful existence, and a diet of bread and water, this book will change your mind and your life.

I like to cook and eat:
I have heartburn and find myself unconciously avoiding the foods that make me feel bad. I haven't been able to find any recipes worth making in other books and websites. They're either boring or just not appetizing. I just bought this book, but it's easy to follow and actually lists foods I should avoid and tells me about other treatments besides medication (which I hate to take). So far I've tried only one of the recipes (oven fried chicken), but it was delicious. Even my husband (who does not have heartburn) loved it, as did my two kids. If the other recipes are this good, this book will find a permanent place in my kitchen!

Disappointing recipe section:
Excellent background information on the disease. One of the most complete descriptions and reasons why certain foods cause problems. However, I was very disappointed with the recipe section. I was expecting recipes for dishes that did not include foods that can cause heartburn. Instead, there were very common recipes, many containing several ingredients that GERD suffers should avoid, with instructions such as "if you have problems with onions, leave it out..." How helpful is that, really!?

An easy to follow, delicious recipe book for GERD!:
I just received this book from Amazon.com and have already tried a few of the recipes. The Grilled Lamb chops with cucumber relish was excellent. Another benefit is that all the recipes seem to be low in fat! I'll be showing this book to my allergist and ENT specialist!

A good cookbook with a wrong recomendation.:
I found this book to be fairly helpful. The recipies are ok with some helpful hints. One recomendation I feel should be included that has helped me beyond expectations is the use of a incline pillow called the Prop-Up Pillow (www.propuppillow.com). Anyone suffering from acid reflux should consider this pillow. It is made from NASA memory foam and is by far the most comfortable on the market. Eat right and use this pillow.
