[.ca] Eating for Pregnancy: A Practical, Healthy, Up-To-Date ... (ISBN 1569245118)

Things have changed since this was published:
Overall a good book, however, two important items have been left out: 1. Omega-3 Oils (Fatty Acids). An incredibly important nutrient that was unfortunately missed out. The topic should have been covered with details on the complexity in supplements and the mercury issue, though this was covered in the fish section in general. 2. Peanut Butter. This is suggested in a number of recipes and the book does not cover the current belief that families susceptible to allergies (asthma, etc..) should avoid peanuts. This topic should be covered at least to let people decide for themselves as well as providing alternatives. Also, I did find the fact that it assumed that the woman was going to be doing the cooking a touch out of date with my generation - neutralising the gender assumptions would improve the book. Overall, I would give it three and a half stars if I could - but alas I cannot. I would recommend that people use this as a firm foundation, but also do your own research on sites like the FDA.

Wonderful recipes and a great resource:
This is a wonderful cook book, even after pregnancy. The recipes are some of my husband and toddler's favorites - we particulary love the flank steak with salsa verde, bbq chicken, and goat cheese and tomato pasta salad. I refer to the book frequently - there is so much great information in here. Many of the recipes are great for entertaining - easy, wonderfully tasty, and special.

Tasty, innovative and nutritious recipes:
Every recipe we've tried has been terrific: the ricotta cheese pancakes, the crab cakes with red pepper sauce, the turkey burgers, the cheese and spinach quesadillas... These are definitely recipes we'll keep using even after our baby is born, and ones we've already shared with friends and family (both pregnant and not). The authors include nutritional information for each recipe, as well as tips for variations and saving time while preparing the recipes. Highly recommended!

Not just another pregancy book:
When you have a baby you end up buying a million books and reading everything you can. When you have your second, as I just did, you only have time to read the most practical books. This book gave me all the understandable nutritional information that I needed for a healthy pregnancy, plus 100+ great-tasting recipes that even I can cook and my family enjoys. This is one "pregancy book" that has a shelf life longer then 9 months.

Great nutritional information and recipes:
Not only is this a great cookbook with plenty of recipe ideas for nutritious food you can eat during and after your pregnancy, but it also contains a wealth of information about nutrition. Each recipe includes nutritional information, the "what's in it for baby and me" lowdown (e.g. "protein, vitamin A, folic acid, etc.") and tips on cooking, storing, advance preparation and ideas on what to pair the recipe with in order to make a complete meal. The appendices are fantastic, including lists of foods that are great sources of iron, calcium, folic acid, fibre, etc. Highly recommended! One of my favourite pregnancy books.
