[.ca] The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets: What Really Works ... (ISBN 1570711429)

From Amazon.com:
Who knew that models use hemorrhoid cream to combat eye puffiness? Diane Irons knew, that's who. She's a model herself and has compiled a bunch of little-known but definitely useful beauty tips. Her advice ranges from the unusual (play classical music at mealtimes and you'll eat less; add aspirin to shampoo to combat dandruff) to the downright wacky (use mascara to touch up hair roots; use antiperspirant on your feet in summer). Hey, if it works, it works! She's also included tons of diet tips, including 50 recipes that check in at 200 calories or less per serving, as well as lists of herbs and supplements to aid quick weight loss. With many of the tips geared toward women on the run, this book is like a Hints from Heloise for the glamour set.

One of Diane's best books:
I recently purchased this book because I am a big fan of Diane Iron's books. All of them are filled with interesting, inexpensive, and easy-to-apply tips in diet, beauty, and fashion, and I was very pleased with "The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets". Diane compiles over 230 essential pages of tips, advice, and secrets. Besides covering beauty, this book also features hair care advice, very neat fashion tips, delicious recipies all under 200 calories, diet secrets, and much, much more. For example, you can make cleansing masks out of kitty litter and mayonnaise (yes, kitty litter and mayonnaise), that work just as well, if not better, than store-bought masks. What to do if that party information says "Formal Dress" or "City Attire"? Turn to this book to find a description of good things to wear! Also, an entire chapter is devoted to secrets of models that seem to always look perfect. Did you know that many models use toothbrushes to clean their lips?- the bristles help slough off dead skin. Or that small birthday candles can get a stuck zipper to get going again? How about washing that scorched shirt from your iron with a basin of hydrogen peroxide and mild detergent?- it will bring your shirt back to life! Find many more of these useful tips, and much more in "The World's Best Kept Beauty Secrets". It's a great invesment for all women, and will help you look your best no matter what.

Light as a meringue:
"The World's Best-Kept Beauty Secrets" is fun, frothy reading, but based on the excerpts, it doesn't bring much that's new to the table. The author's warm, chatty tone urging women to make time for theselves, keep journals, stand up straight and project poise do not reveal anything deeper than common sense. How often have you heard these same exhortations from your mother, your friends and every advice columnist out there? Still, it's not a bad way to spend time in a waiting room, and if you like the subject of beauty, it beats reading an out-of-date fashion magazine.

Improve your self-image:
This book has certainly had an effect on me! Reading it was just the push I needed to get off the sidelines and really DO SOMETHING to improve my appearance and self-image. Diane Irons emphasizes those things we all know we should do, but I actually followed through on a few of her health and dieting tips and weeks later I'm still going strong, and see no burn-out in sight! Diane's ideas are easy, very affordable, and she pumps you up to do today those things you put off until tommorrow. Sure, some of it you find in magazines, but how often do you get those back out? Have it all in a book you can grab. Read it for a boost of confidence and encouragement.

GREAT:
This book was EXTREMELY interesting. It had fun, and interesting tips for things such as slimming fashion ideas, natural weight loss herbs, relaxing spa tips, and things that every woman should carry in her purse. It was very helpful. It's like the Bible for all women.

Excellent and practicall book:
Lots of practical advise, low budget and high results recommendations. Lots of natural, home made beauty recipies. Great buy!
