From Amazon.com: The many virtues of the humble gourd have been recognized for centuries. Used throughout the ages as storage vessels, dishes, utensils, musical instruments, and decorative items, gourds are a favorite craft material nowadays, affording an ideal surface for painting, carving, wood burning, cutting, and otherwise embellishing. Ginger Summit's excellent directions, supplemented with clear, step-by-step photos, demonstrate all these techniques, in which you learn to transform various gourd shapes into masks, candleholders, bracelets, numerous containers, and many other items. The designs complement the medium perfectly and make for relatively simple projects. A resource page lists suppliers and contact information for tools and the dried gourds themselves. --Amy Handy
I'm Hooked!: All I had to do was fan through the photos and I was hooked! The detailed instructions were great, but the photos make you see gourds in a whole new light! It has definitly re-awakened a creative need!
Another winning book by Ginger Summit.: Gourd Crafts, 20 Great Projects to Dye, Paint, Carve, Bead and Woodburn in a Weekend, is a gotta have book for all gourd crafters. I have all of Ginger's other books, and am just as excited, upon receiving this book, as I was with her others. Ginger always puts out all new information in each of her new books. I have been gourd crafting for 13 years, and yet her books are completely filled with new information, myself and others, can't wait to try. Making flowerpots, tea cups, napkins rings and bracelets are just a few of her new ideas that I plan to try. This book also includes new beautiful gourd work by other artists and crafters, not seen before. If you love working on gourds, get this new book. I will look at it, and learn from it for years to come, as I have with her other books.
Another Great Book: This book is every bit as good as her other book: "The Complete Book of Gourd Craft". It has different projects to inspire creativity, and it has fantastic photographs and detailed instructions. The only thing lacking (from both books) is the supply sources which are listed in the table of contents, but don't appear in the books anywhere I can find. Even without that part, the book is excellent.
