dissappointed: Like many other 40 something Jews, I come from a secular Jewish home and have spent years in Eastern religions. I am looking to find a home in Judaism. Inspired by Reconstructionist and the Neo-Hasidism I was really looking forward to reading Reb Zalman's book. He seems to be the inspiration for much of this movement. Take him literally when he says "First Steps...". The first two-thirds of this book are about being a good person: at work, at home, in marriage. I found it painfully meaningless. At the end he begins to discuss Jewish prayer. If you are a thoughtful person who wants to hear about Jewish ritual or spiritual practice this isn't for you.
