[.ca] The Polymer Clay Techniques Book (ISBN 1581800088)

From Amazon.com:
It's hard to imagine a material more versatile than polymer clay. What other medium yields perfectly convincing simulations of everything from marble, wood, ivory, and jade to metal, porcelain, mosaic, enamel, and semiprecious stones--not to mention flowers, food, and sculptural forms? With a thoroughness rarely found in other books on the subject, Sue Heaser explains all of these methods and more, supplementing her excellent instructions with good, clear photos. Although she includes a number of full step-by-step projects, this is primarily a techniques-driven presentation. Beginning with the preliminaries of materials, preparation, color mixing, baking, and other basics, Heaser then moves on to clay manipulation (beads, millefiori, molds, vessels, frames, flowers), sculpting (simple animals, faces, armatured figures), embellished treatments (stamping, painting, metallic effects, image transfers), and simulations (stones, antique effects, wood, miniatures). Chapter-opening spreads showcase exquisite works by a variety of polymer clay artists, and a helpful appendix compares the handling properties of all the leading polymer clay brands. Beginners will most likely be more comfortable with a more project-oriented approach, but anyone already bitten by the polymer clay bug will find this an essential idea book. --Amy Handy

Great Beginner Guide:
This book shows all the basic (and not so basic) techniques in Polymer Clay artistry. If you need a basic overview, with quick "how-to" guidance, this is the book for you.

Easy To Understand Instructions: Lots of Techniques:
I really enjoy this book by Sue Heaser. I am new to the world of Polymer clay, and found this book extremely easy to understand. I also have her book "Making Polymer Clay Jewellery" but like "The Polymer Clay Techniques Book" best. Included in the book, is how to make beads, buttons, millefiori, cabochons, Mokume Gane, faux finishes like stone, antiquing, etc. Another book I'd recommend that has great techniques and pictures, is "The Art of Polymer Clay" by Donna Kato. Both of these are very well written and provide a lot of inspiration! Donna Kato's book seems to have more advanced techniques.

Absolutely Essential For the Beginner!:
This book is very clearly written with many, many photos. If you only buy one book on polymer clay, make it this one.

The best polymer clay book out there (in my humble opinion)!:
I LOVE this book! I wound up getting it out of the library and renewing it over and over before deciding I absolutely had to own it. There are so many techniques, projects, and ideas in it that I haven't gotten to nearly all of them yet, and I've been having so much fun. Sue Heaser is fantastic. If you're looking for loads of amazing and creative things to do with polymer clay--explained easily enough for a beginner to grasp them--this book is for you.

Excellent resource for beginners:
Sue Heaser makes what seems complicated very easy with this step-by-step book.
