I'm not as enthralled as the others: I have a few problems with this book. It's sold as a book of smoothie recipes. While recipes make up about fifty percent of the book, the other fifty percent is filled with worthless (to me anyhow) information to up the page count. The first third of the book is consumed by the history of the smoothie and profiles of some of the smoothie chains. Several of the author's other publications deal with the business end of the smoothie business. I don't know why he chose to incorporate it into a book for consumers. If this is something you're interested in, I'm sure it's a good read. I skipped it. The next half of the book (give or take a few pages) is the recipe section. This is where the book shines. If they were to rip out the front and back sections of the book and leave only the middle, I'd have given it a five star ranking. The recipe's are fantastic. Several books I've read have had unrealistic expectations of what to find in a home refrigerator. Not this one. You don't need to own a Maui Wowie franchise to make these drinks. A fair number of the recipes were contributed by the shops profiled in the front of the book as well as companies like Dole. The rest of the book is wasted on about ten blank pages for notes, an index and an appendix with such need to know information as what kind of ingredients to use to help scurvy, how to contact the World Health Organization and metric conversion tables. My recommendation to the publishers is to pull out the recipe section, put them in a spiral bound book (so the pages stay open when it's layed flat)and sell it for ten bucks instead of sixteen. If you don't mind a recipe book that's only fifty percent recipe's, you won't be disappointed with this product.
The best smoothie book out there.: If you love Smoothies then this is your bible. It is that simple.
It's the best. Fruit smoothies for the health of it.: This book is one of the best, if not the best book on smoothies. Getting more fruit into our diets is something we all aspire to, but few achieve. Between having to shop for it, getting it home, and it spoils one day later, makes the recommended daily levels fruit consumption a lot more difficult to achieve. Then along came smoothies, and now we freeze our fruit. Chop it up into little squares as soon as you get it home, and place it in zip loc bags. Then the smoothie is always ready; no more spoilage. My favorite is to take banannas, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, strawberries, and blueberries to make an all fruit shake. In this book you see a lot of varieties of the smoothies. It's worth it just for the redipes. Highly recommended.
Delivers What's Promised: I purchased this book based on what I saw at Amazon.com. The book delivers what is promised. I really liked the history of and profiles of the juice and smoothie companies that contributed recipes. As for the recipes: yum! Now I'm the smoothie pro in my apartment complex and smoothie parties happen at my place all the time!

If you like smoothies, than you want to add Smoothies!: The Original Smoothie Book to your kitchen or barroom reference shelf.
