A Necessary Addition to Your Marine Library:
It isn't often that you go to your mailbox and find a very pleasant surprise. I did the other day, and found a copy of Capt. Franz VonRiedel's new book. This book deals with many smaller vessels, such as tugboats, fish tugs, barges, ferries, passenger boats, workboats and the traditional massive Great Lakes freighter. Each of the nine chapters opens with a one to two page narrative about the type of vessel concerned, followed by a series of interesting and unique b & w photographs. This book contains over 300 photos. Each photo is described with a informative caption. This book is well researched and nicely laid out. What makes this book especially valuable is that it deals with a topic that has been seldom written about prior to this book, and thus, is not a duplication of other publications available. Hats off to Franz and his publisher for producing such a fine book. This book is a "must have" for anyone interested in Great Lakes shipping or workboats.
