[.ca] Recipes For Dairy Free Living (ISBN 1587611007)

not terribly helpful:
I already knew I could eat meat and potatoes and vegetables ... who needed another book of recipes like that??? The point of a dairy-free cookbook should be to give alternatives to dairy products, i.e.: how to substitute with rice milk, soy yogurt, etc. I do admit, though, that I'm looking forward to trying the coconut ice cream!

Holiday Menu Challenges:
Some dear friends from out of town are coming to our house for Thanksgiving dinner. Stan is allergic to shellfish and his wife Louise has dairy allergies. Stan will be fine; I'll be cooking a turkey. But how can I find a substitute for creamy mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie with whipped cream? Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without these traditions, so I went in search of some help at my local bookstore. I was surprised and delighted to find Denise Jardine's "Recipes for dairy free living". What a wonderful niche she has filled with this book. My goal was to create a wonderful holiday meal that accommodated dietary restrictions of my guests that was invisible to everyone. Now no one will feel left out or singled out, and I am confident about preparing and serving this menu. Denise has made the preparation a no-brainer by including a step-by-step planner. I was also delighted to discover the author has a website that provides, among other things, an opportunity to submit family recipes for dairy free transformation. BRAVO! K.E. Reader from San Francisco

Great dairy-free cookbook:
I am enjoying this cookbook. For various health reasons, my family is trying to limit its intake of dairy products, which is tough to do. The recipes in "Dairy-Free Living" successfully substitute for dairy products, and the results are delicious. No recipe has disappointed me yet. I especially like the soups and the seafood stew. I also appreciate the entertainment/meal planning in this cookbook. I want a one-stop source for all my recipes. The meat and veggie dishes have been winners, too.

Glad to learn the facts on Diary Allergies:
I would like to acknowledge Denise Jardine for her precise information about being allergic to dairy products and what to look for when reading ingredient labels. It is amazing how many store products have diary additives; all the way from vegetable and meat entrees to mayonaise and pancake mixes. My fiance no longer has digestive problems and inpart just purchasing a loaf of bread that is dairy free was a big help. Her recipes are easy to follow and I taste great. Denise brings old recipes \owith wonderful flavors\c to the table with new ingredients. Thank you Denise!!!!

A Terrific Dairy-Free Cookbook!!!:
I bought a copy of this book after reading a newspaper article on the author that also featured some of the recipes included in the book. It's a great addition to my cookbook collection. Although I don't have a problem with dairy foods, I have some friends that can't tolerate them, so I bought this book to help me create a dairy-free dinner party. It was a huge success. I found the recipes easy to prepare and my friends raved about the dishes I served. The biggest "hit" on the menu was the Coconut-Lime Seafood Stew and I had to prove that the Flourless Chocolate Almond Cake contained no dairy ingredients. I found the book to be very informative and liked the fact that I could find all the ingredients at a local grocery store. My "dairy challenged" friends all want a copy of this book, so part of my Christmas shopping is already taken care of!! Thanks Denise
