Very comprehensive book on residential design: I recieved this book and the companion workbook with a home study course on Architecture. This text is incredibly comprehensive in the field of residential design. I learned alot more about house design, especially plumbing and electrical circuits, than I do just from building houses. The chapter on windows outlines some important concepts for producing appropriate lighting that I've never seen elsewhere. There's also useful chapters on modular design and alternative housing. I took the course and read this book as a contractor who wants to understand why designers create plans that sometimes make our work difficult. After reading 800+ pages I found that ease of construction is a virtual non-issue. On the contrary it's proposed that the ability to produce complicated designs is a badge of honor for the designer/architect. This book delivers an incredible quantity and breadth of information. It's a useful reference for anyone involved in house design or construction.
