The Manga for lovers of beauty: I first read Tenshikinryoku--translated into English as Angel Sanctuary-- in the original Japanese comic. I loved the art style though when I first read it I could not understand a word of Japanese. I re-read it a year later, only to find that the art wasn't the only thing that was captivating, but the plot as well. This may make me sound sick, but incest is fun point to play with in a plot. The way that Yuki-Sensei plays with the ideas of what is right and wrong in the eyes of the 3 worlds, Earth, Heaven, and Hell, is just awesome. The relationships between Sara and Setsuna is very overcoming in the first 3 books, but the author also brings the angels and demons relationships in the rest of the book series.(Examples: the sadistic-love that Rociel feels for Alexiel, and Alexiel's hate for Rociel because of his evil feelings or how Micheal, always seen as the unfeeling warrior archangel in the Bible, hurts from the loss of his brother: Lucifer.) The way that she shows how all the characters are linked, and how their pasts are destroying their futures is just amazing. The angels and the demons have as much feelings and heart as the humans. Heaven is seen as a business with different parts held off for angels, and the heirarchy having the best rooms. Hell is well. . hell. Lucifer is not the only satan, and muses and angels that fell with him are bitter, and ready to start the war again, and this time win. But I shall give a warning: If you are a conservative christian this book is definately not for you. This is the only downer from this book . . . if you are not ready to except the fact that God has made some mistakes in his eternity of living, then this book is the largest and most hateful blasphemy thought of.
great!: This is one of the best maga I have ever see. It has been out there for a long time now. I am really picky about the artwork. I have to admit this one is excellent. Kaori Yuki is one of my favorite artists. The storyline is intricate and confusing. The charactors are really memorable. They will stay in your head for a long time. But it is not for young kids. The interpretation of heaven and angle is different from the sunday school version. Bt the way, If you are devoted to the maga, I suggest you not to see the Anime DVD.
Greatest Manga Ever: Angel Sanctuary is, hands down, the BEST manga ever written. The artwork is beautiful, as well as the storyline, and the characters reach out and grab your heart. It's compelling, and it makes you think. Action, Romance, and Comedy are all blended together to form one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read. If you're new to manga, and looking for a good manga to start with, then definitely read Angel Sanctuary. You'll find yourself itching to see what happens next.
Awesome: This series is great. In my opinion, it has some of the best quality artwork I've ever seen. But most importanyly, the story is just awesome. It seems very well thought out and gets you involved with the characters. A lot of manga just gives you a superficial view of the characters and never lets you get to know them. Here, that is not the case. The story has depth and most importantly keeps you interested! This is a must for anyone who likes less mainstream themes or if you want to try something different. Not recommended for younger children.
Almost perfect...: I realize that this manga series has a huge following, and to be honest, I enjoyed volumes one and two enough to move on to the third. The only beef I have with Angel Sanctuary so far is that the plotlines are so numerous and involve so many characters that I had to re-read each title at least twice to make sure I totally understood just what was going on. If I finish reading a manga and find myself thinking "Huh?" after closing the book, then in my opinion, the plot is a bit heavy and needs to be lightened a little. Having said that, volumes one and two are definitely worth adding to any manga collection, and I will purchase volume three in the near future.
