[.ca] In the Grip of Grace (ISBN 159415158X)

I've read it 3 times...:
...and everytime I've received a blessing from it. Each time that I read it, there was a part of the book that really helped me in the phase of life that I was going through. The first time I read it, I was a new Christian and it helped me grow. The second time I picked it up several years later I was a backslider trying to come back to the Lord and the book truly helped me get over my feelings of unworthiness because of my backslidding. I was assured that God's grace would still cover me. The third time I read it was not too long ago, my fiance and I read it through together and it really helped us get a solid foundation to our relationship. It opened the doors of communication for us for many spiritual topics - doors that have remained open since. I recommend it for anyone who is leaning towards becoming a Christian, or to the Christian no matter what phase of life you're at. Buy it, read it, put it on the bookshelf, but never forget about it. Pick it up and read it again!

SUCH WONDERFUL GRACE:
God died for us all and by His Grace we are saved. This is one of the best books that I've read by Mr. Lucado and is based on the book of Romans. Mr. Lucado is knowledgeable and such an excellent teacher, I try to share most of his books with my friends. In The Grip Of Grace, he reminds us of the extent of God's love towards us. The extent that God will go to, proving his love for us. No psychologist, hypnotherapist, doctor, sweet talker can reach deep down into the pits of our souls and renew us with that sweet and wonderful gift of Grace. This gift that God so willingly offers to this suffering world as we reach out to him burdened with sin. Thank you Mr. Lucado, this book has changed my way of thinking and it will certainly be read by lots of my friends. reviewed by Heather Marshall.

Put down the rock and take My hand!:
I have been a Christian over thirty years; but in recent months, I have really struggled with my Christianity. Occasionally, I catch myself stacking rocks as the third brother in "The Parable of the River;" and I need a reminder of God's unfathomable love. In the Grip of Grace is that type of reminder. Emotionally gripping, Lucado's easy-flowing style guides the reader through the best and thankfully, most entertaining commentary on the book of Romans I have ever read. The introduction to the endearing Billie Jack was worth the price of the book! In the Grip of Grace is the literary equivalent of hot tea on a cold day; and I would definitely recommend it to both Christians and non-Christians.

Feel good stuff, but not a lot of substance:
Lucado has a way of communicating in such a way that you feel the love of God, and the forgiveness God offers. If you need to spend some time trying to get in touch with God's mercy and love, and you want a simple read, then this is the book for you. However, if you're looking for something that has a little more substance, then I would suggest a couple of titles by Jerry Bridges - Transforming Grace or the Discipline of Grace. Both of these cover the same topics that Lucado covers but with a more thorough exposition of the biblical text, and a more lasting and thorough coverage of what can be a somewhat controversial, or easily misunderstood subject. Don't get me wrong, Lucado is a great storyteller - he has a talent for communicating the emotion of God - but his books don't do much more than that.

A book to read over and over again:
There should be no other message given to people who don't understand God or are searching for God than God's Grace. His amazing Grace. This book is great for unbelievers. It will wipe out a lot of their questions about Christianity, how you become a Christian, and why anyone would become a Christian. This book walks us through Romans and fully explains Grace. I never understood it so well. Now I am forever thinking of Max Lucado's speeding/accident record he shared with us in this book. How well he ties that into why there must be punishment for sin and how Christ acomplishes it. Max Lucado's books are never very long and if you just read through them you can finish in a few hours. The difference is that with this book (and many others like it) you get more out of it that you could from reading a commentary, and in this case, on Romans. And just for those of you who don't know, every Max Lucado book has a study guide in the back of it. So you can go through it on your own or with a group. Personally, I like to read first then go through the Bible Study later. I know that this will be a book that I will be rereading at least once a year, if not more. EVERYONE should read this book.
