The book begins with a bang - literally, in typical Dekker style. The first few chapters had me reading with one eye closed and questioning every reality. Not a story for the faint of heart, but the theme of the story was woven throughout it expertly. There were so many plot twists that I never knew what was coming next - awesome. I have not read "Showdown" by Dekker and understood the book without having read it, but wish I had known the two books were connected. There are characters/events from "Showdown" that play out in "Saint" and may add a richer context to the story.
