A LESSON IN FRIENDSHIP: This debut children's book by acclaimed actress Julianne Moore teaches youngsters a valuable lesson - "...the things that make you different also make you YOU." In this case the 7-year-old heroine known as "Freckleface Strawberry" is covered with freckles. Not only that but her hair is red, not auburn but really, really red. She has no idea where her freckles came from as her mother, father, and sister don't have any. Nonetheless, there they are and they show no signs of going away. In many ways she is very much like her friends - she is short, she just lost another tooth, and she can ride a bike. But, to her dismay these friends always have something to say about her freckles. Someone says she's "dotted;" another asks to smell them. So, she tries everything she can think of to get rid of those troublesome spots. Nothing works, which is when she learns the meaning of true friendship. Illustrations by LeUyen Pham are bright, perky, and alive. - Gail Cooke
