Not the best choice for emetophobes but highly recommended for professionals:
As the title states, I don't think this book is the best choice for someone with emetophobia - at least not someone who has it as badly as I do. I've been emet for about 8 years but it got very bad 2 years ago when I had my first bout of panic attacks. Within two weeks I was housebound and currently still am. This book is extremely well written and an easy read. The author, being an emet herself, describes what exactly it is like being emetophobic and what goes through our heads during 'danger times' such as when the flu is going around or we eat undercooked chicken. She has such an insight into what we deal with that it is an excellent read for someone who is living with an emet or for professionals who are treating an emet. The reason why I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who is an extreme emet like myself is because the author goes into great detail about her prior experiences with vomiting, describing the texture, taste, etc. I read the book fairly quickly and it gave me numerous panic attacks as I am very sensitive to details like that. I also found that the coping techniques she talks about aren't anything new to an emet. We all have our own techniques that we employ during 'danger times' and hers aren't anything new as far as I could tell. I would recommend this book to anyone who lives with an emet or for any professionals who could be treating an emet at some point. Emetophobia is such a common phobia and yet I have not met a single professional who has much knowledge of what it is nor how it can affect the sufferer. All in all, if you choose to buy this book I don't think you'll be disappointed but it won't offer you a cure or any miracle coping techniques.
