Outstanding book.: This book is an outstanding account of service during the Falklands War in 1982. The author was the Commanding Officer of 42 Commando, Royal Marines, during wartime operations in the Falklands Islands. The book is a personal story of the author's experiences, actions, and thoughts during the period of deployment, operations, and return from the Falklands War. Unlike other accounts of military service, this book does not dwell on strategy, tactics, or weapons technology. The author is obviously intelligent and well-educated as he writes an account that would interest members of the general public as well as military enthusiasts or history buffs. The book is well written and easy to read. Details of the conditions under which the soldiers of both sides operated were eye opening. Much humour is displayed throughout the book to lighten what could be a dark subject. Fortunately this book also avoids the associated politics, finger pointing, etc., that often accompanies such personal accounts, it merely tells a story of an unusual and exciting time in an individual's life. One of the finest personal accounts I have read about military operations/service. A good read for all.
