basics only: This is a basic book of edgings mainly, with one or two whole patterns. But if you do like some historical content of your stitches, you might really enjoy this book.
LACE EDGING: The subtitle for this book should be "A Victorian Notebook of Knited Lace Edging Patterns. With only a few exceptions the patterns are for edging only with no all over lace patterns.
A nice reference on lace, with some fun reading: This is a real treasure; not only do you get to meet Blanche Beau and peek into her lace notebook, but you get the lace all charted for ease of knitting. I love antique knitting patterns but going through the non-standard notations written out line-by-line can be tedious. The modernized charting makes the lace accessible. You can never have enough stitch patterns for lace edgings for shawls and pillows. Really lovely.
A must for any knitter's library.: Delightful story of a Victorian lady and her lace. The author then recreates the lace patterns in contemporary terminology. The real plus--all patterns are charted.
