One Ship= Many Lives=One Great Read: When I was a child I loved being taken to the piers in New York City to see the magnificent ocean liners when they were in port, so perhaps I was predisposed to like this book, and like it I did! From the moving encounter of her launch, through the details of the interior, her art work, to her exciting yet mournful end this book is a great read. Even her possibly boring facts and statistics are presented in a very readable manner. The cover begs to become a coffee table accessory, but open it; this is a book for everyone to enjoy!
Big Ship, Big Story: If you've ever sailed on a cruise ship or served aboard a naval ship, read this book. Sailors refer to a ship as "she" and that must be because ships have a life. Great gift for anyone who served on the West Point.
A grand tale of a long gone era of ocean travel: Lawrence Driscoll has not only fully told the long and fascinating story of a fabled ship, but he also captures, using source materials from his own collections and a lot of original research, the bigger historical picture of the era of American passenger liners. I had not understood fully until reading this beautifully illustrated book, the extent to which our government and labor unions both supported and undercut this industry that has now passed into history.
