Where Trouble Leads: Once again Brenda Chapman has presented readers with an absorbing mystery in Where Trouble Leads, the third book in her series of young adult books featuring young heroine Jennifer Bannon. Jennifer Bannon is a girl you feel you get to know through the course of reading these books. The issues she encounters with friends, the uncertainty she feels over boys, and her anger and confusion over her parent's separation - these are things readers of all ages can empathize with. However the trait I admire most in Jennifer's character is her endless curiosity about life. It enables her to experience the mysteries unfolding around her each day. The Jennifer I know from reading this series notices even the trivial things going on around her, and wonders about them. Then she manages to get herself smack into the middle of a big, scary problem. That's exactly what she does in Where Trouble Leads. Jennifer is working as a camp counselor when she spots people skulking in the woods at night and starts investigating these strange occurrences. She questions the peculiar behaviour of the people running the camp. We're drawn into her unease, and become compelled to find out what the heck is going on -- just as much as she is. Along the way we're presented with glimpses into life at summer camp in the wilds of Canada, as well as the puzzling behavior of her charges in the Red Squirrel cabin. What has made pink-haired Roxie so aloof and jaded? Why is tiny Carol so frightened and reserved? Jennifer Bannon is an inspiring young hero, and I look forward to meeting her again in the next book.
