Straightforward: Unlike many art books, this book is very straightforward and cuts out all the BS I have found to be in many Art books....It is the book used in the Jewelry Class here at Western Michigan U. All the examples are well illustrated, and the explanations are excellent. It covers everything from materials to tools and techniques ranging from elementary to advanced. Anyone who wants to get in to Jewelry Metalsmithing should get this book.
Still amazing...: This was the text for my Jewelry One course at art school five years ago, and it was excellent then. Though I've been painting since, I pulled it out last week 'cause I needed to make something- and it all came right back. Amazing amount of basic info, set up to use at the bench where you need it. More impressive now than then. Highly recommended.
Must-have !!!: This is the best, perhaps the most complete Metalsmith Handbook that you will use as long as you are working in metal!!! Well organized, logical sequence in book so little back-tracking. Illustrated to some degree, use to learn, refresh, teach!!
Great reference: The Complete Metalsmith presents a broad overview of the craft of working with non-ferrous metals. This book won't teach you everything you need to know about metalsmithing, but it will give you a great introduction to lots of areas. It's also a great bench reference that even the experienced worker will use again and again.
A Must for the Jeweleręs Bookshelf: If you are a jeweler, and don't have this book, order it now! If you are just interested in how jewelry is made, this an excellent, simply written book that will eliminate some of the mysteries, and could even get you into making jewelry or other metalsmithing projects as a hobby. Written in simple terms, this convenient to use (spiral bound) book is one of the most easy-to-read, on this subject, you will find. McCreight is a great teacher, and this book, like a lot of his books, proves it.
