A First Person Picture Book: This book is an illustrated compilation of brief (1-4 paragraph), first-person narratives by victims, family, and workers in the HIV/AIDS epidemic in southern Africa. There are more pages of photos than of text. Photos are well-done and powerful. The book does much to give the reader an insider's view of the AIDS tragedy and its impact at the personal and family level. It does not address the problem analytically at all; you'll need other books for that. This one is like sitting in the waiting room of the HIV clinic, or on the floor of the hut, and talking to the people about their stories. Mike Blyth--pediatrician in Nigeria
