Never too late...: I can't believe I missed this early 90's release as I was a big fan in that period of all things electronic and most things danceable like the Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. Nonetheless, I am enjoying it now in 2002 more than ten years after its release. I understand the comparisons to DM, but I would say that Cause & Effect spent a lot of time listening to polished, melodic pop music in general. They understood the importance of finding that hook that distinguishes good pop from bad. Like icing on the cake, they could take the pop hook and make you want to dance to it as well. Nicely done.
Great synthpop: I've had this album on cassette tape (boy, I feel old) since its release back in 91, and I've always loved the great dance beats and marvelous hooks of this band. Recently, though, I've discovered a band that obviously owes a lot to these guys. Check them out, they're called The Echoing Green, and personally, I think they may even be better than C & E.
Great C & E ..: If you like C & E this is a must own album. It's songs are a little more pop-ish (eg. Pet Shop Boys) than successive albums. I'd say it's a little more "lighter" and less "deep" tone/mood than say Trip or Innermost Station. But that doesn't make it any less good. It's a fun album and worth owning.
Excellent first album: Excellent,a must for any die hard fan !!!
