week: i remember when i first plugged it in, my ears were flooded with tedious and boring nu-metal. i thought the cd would be good because i had heard the song loco and thought it wasnt bad. well, thats the only good song on this album. and from about 5 listens, that song gets sh\itty. i have tried to like this album, i really have, but nothing happens. its boring and stupid. the lyrics are rediculous and the sound is boring. im surprised that ive had it this long without throwing it the window of the car. or, i should sell it to some sucker for twenty bucks and make a profit. do NOT buy this album. for you will feel sorry in the morning. i surely did. tedious, boring, juvenile, childish, untalented...i could go on forever folks, so just look at the amount of stars i gave it. avoid it.
THIS CD IS SOOO (...) AMAZING!: ok, so slipknot's new cd just came out and i enjoyed it quite a bit. its better than old slipknot. so, back to Coal Chamber... the cd is now, like 8 years old and it still sounds like the new metal you hear nowadays, its simply amazing to hear in a quiet room with no one else around to hear the screaming and stuff coming out of you speakers. i definately give this CD a 10/10 man, all the (...) way, the lyrics, though they dont always make sense, are still kept together by the amazing vocals of the lead singer. here is seperate reviews of each aspect of the band's performance Vocals (11/10) The lead vocalist of the band, though he doesnt really show off his singing skills, but rather his screaming skills. he takes it to extremes throughout the entire cd. does an amazing job at what he does. he also does this static-y voice that he uses quite a bit and sounds awesome. Guitars (9/10) awesome, simply awesome... the electric guitar doesnt sound like something youve never heard before, and the bass guitar sounds quite a bit like the bass guitar from korn, with the same tapping noises. together though, they DO sound like something youve never heard on this planet. Drums (7/10) the lowest score on the review because dont almost all drummers sound the same? except for joey from slipknot of course The Whole Band (11/10) Coal Chamber all the way man! put it all together and you get a band that totally knows how to set the roof on fire then rip it completely off your house!
Not so good: Tuned down guitars playin easy repetitive riffs while the lead singer screams dumb words. (ie- Big Truck) If you want new stuff that is good try In Flames.
Good album, not great.: Ok, i just wanna say, whats up with you people saying Coal Chamber and Korn are just alike? Coal Chamber would totally destroy the group of pussies that is Korn, if theres one band that has soldout more than any other band its korn, their first album was their only one worth listening to, their second actually had a song with a beat on it the whole way through. I know nu-metal may be heavily hip-hop influenced but korn are just wannabe rappers playing guitar and drums, just like Limp Bizkit, and it SUX! All korn does is sing about how my daddy raped me like the little queer that jon davis is, i cant believe i ever started listening to them. This album from CC is not their best by far, if you want good Coal chamber material, go get Giving the devil his due, if you read the inside booklet it says that CC formed in 88' or 89' and got signed in 95', Way before Korn formed so dont give the people who really know BS about how CC ripped korn off, they have their own sound in my opinion, nuthing like Korn's watered down hip hop queer music. Best Tracks on this album are Oddity, Pig, Bradley and I. But if you want some really good material from Dez, go get his new band Devildriver's album, Way better than anything CC or Korn ever did and they only have 1 album out. We should totally boycott korn and run them out of the business if u ask me....
Coal Chamber: The beginning of Coal Chamber. This album is pure classic and displays a time when Nu Metal was on the rise and ruling. F*** the comparisons between cc and korn. Coal Chamber formed around the same time Korn did, and the only reason this album was released so late was because there was a marital issue between Dez and his wife so the release date was posponed. This was the beginning of something truly great in the metal scene and it is quite sad that the band had to break up so soon after releasing a tremendous album, Dark Days. Though they no longer play together, Coal Chamber is and will always be my favorite band of all time. All Hail Dez and his new band Devildriver! Now here is a simple description of the album from song to song: 1.Loco- Simply a classic CC song. If you havent heard it, you havent heard CC. 2.Bradley- A touching song questioning the existence of identity. A really killer beat with a memorable riff. 3.Oddity- Tremendous heaviness. Very eerie sounding during the verses and explodes in the chorus. 4.Unspoiled- A personal favorite. The riff in this song is so damn dark yet carries an amazing intensity. Its really cool when Dez is screaming toward the end "STAY...unspoiled" 5.Big Truck- A good track, not the best of the cd but worth a listen. Its about Rayna and her fear of driving next to big automobiles. 6.Sway- Another classic cc track. Very heavy. "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire, we dont need no water let the mother f***er burn, BURN MOTHER F***ER BURN" 7.First- Really dark and soft spoken through the verses before it explodes in the end. 8.Maricon Puto- A little interlude, just some percussion and someone chanting "maricon puto" 9.I- Another one of my all time favorites. A really heavy song with some kick ass vocals by the almighty Dez. Its kinda cool at the end when he's screaming "I LIKE ME!" check out the demo version as well 10.Clock- A nice heavy song to headbang to with some cool lyrics. 11.My Frustration- A great song with personal lyrics touching on instability, anxiety, and fear. 12.Amir of the Desert- A funny little interlude about amir from the band orgy. 13.Dreamtime- Another personal favorite of mine with really good lyrics and an entrancing breakdown towards the end. 14.Pig- The heaviest song on the album, really slow verse but explodes into an unexpected chorus that just kills. There is a hidden portion of the cd which is primarely dez talking and a little bit of behind the scenes jamming sessions. Listen To Meegs's solo!
