youre all caught up in a network of lies,: None better.Listened to victims lately and it causes chills.Trower is one of the best ever. He was very hot when these cuts were made . NO use comparing him , because each cut and lp, is unique in its own way. Guitar player did not list him as one of the best, their loss. He is still underplayed on most retro rock stations. Buy this.
Terrific: Unlike some pairings in "two-fer" CD releases, this pairing seems quite natural. I became enamored with Caravan to Midnight before ever hearing Victims of the Fury, and prefer Caravan to Victims even today. Still, both are quite good. The first two cuts of Caravan to Midnight are, IMHO, essential Trower. The difference in the cuts included on Victims of the Fury here vs. the original US release of the LP may disconcert some listeners, but the music included here is still very good. If you insist on having only one CD by Robin Trower, then an argument can be made that it should be this one rather than Bridge of Sighs. A stronger argument can be made that having only one CD by Trower is a mistake.
Overlooked Masterpieces: When most people mention Robin Trower they think of his early work (Bridge Of Sighs) etc... but don't let these two Trower gems slip by your appreciation for him and his band. Caravan To Midnight (released in'78) is probably my favorite of the two. If you have some time to sit down and relax for a brief period of time, this is the release to choose. James Dewars voice has never sounded better.Cuts like Birthday Boy, King Of The Dance and My Love(Burning Love) are truly gorgeous pieces of music.Trowers band is tight and the production values are top notch on every cut.The same goes for Victims Of The Fury. This release rocks a little more than Caravan, but it's true Trower at his finest. My favorite cuts on Victims are Jack And Jill and The Shout. Growing up in a small town in the late 70's all you heard was Queen, Rush, Aerosmith etc.. I am truly pleased that I discovered these two fine pieces of music and I still listen to both of them to this day. Crank up your stereo and strap yourself in for some of Trowers most unappreciated work available.Music like this never ages, it just seems to get better.
10 stars is more like it: Caravan To Midnight doesn't do much for me, but Victims Of The Fury is HOT. Trower & Company are at their best here - James Dewar was in fine form and Robin plays his heart out. This is as good as blues rock gets, and I am totally sold. This one is now in heavy rotation here at Planet Frank! Robin Trower HAS got to be the world's most underrated guitarist!
"How about another tour, Robin!": I'm a serious, long time Trower fan. I have both of these releases on vinyl and would have given this effort 5 stars. The only reason I didn't was that my favorite album, "Victims of the Fury", was hacked and twisted up. "Caravan" is all here, song for song, but as another reviewer pointed out about "Victims", "The Shout" is nowhere to be found. Also, "Ready for the Taking" is absent. Both excellent cuts and very worthy of being here. And If someone can tell me where "One in a Million" comes from, I sure would like to know. I won't complain about the addition of "None But The Brave" from the CD "Back It Up". It rocks. "Victims" cuts are all over the place compared to the vinyl record. The CD reads "Remastered From Original Master Tapes." But who's masters? Not to worry, if you're a fan, buy it anyway. Hope you don't drool too much, but I was in the front row of "The Crown Lounge" in Miami standing 5 feet from Trower JAMMIN'into my brain for a couple hours about 1988-89. Where are you, Robin? I wanna pray at your feet again!!
