the beginning of something new for metal in the 90's.:
helmet's second lp 'meantime' represented a shift in metal music in the 90's away from long hair, guitar solo wanking, and celebrity lifestyle. helmet was one of the pioneers of this new metal and this album was their crowning achievement. the songs are very groove heavy and are packed with catchy riffs, keeping your interest right to the end of the disc. unlike their 'nu-metal' imitators, helmet changes up the tempos, switching from down-tempo parts to upbeat double-time parts, varying the styles they employ and keeping it interesting. i would highly recommend this record.

more skull crushing start-stop rhythms and seering lyrics:
actually 4.5 stars...this is the first album with Interscope after leaving Amphetamine Reptile Records and IMO the whole 'helmet' thing has pretty much peaked by this point and maybe even started to drop. After 'Strap It On' what do you do as a follow up???? 'Meantime'delivers higher production quality on this effort which actually reduces the abrasiveness that is this band's calling card. Lyrics again span apathy, disenchantment and possible penchant for implicit violence. Still a good buy and worthy addition to Fugazi, Girls Against Boys and Rocket from the Crypt playlists. Meantime subjects the listener to 90% of the pile-driving intensity of 'Strap It On' though with slightly less wreckless abandon. If you like it hard and raw... pickup 'Strap It On' which IMO is the benckmark for judging brutality of sonic mayhem.

Misunderstood and Ignorantly Dubbed The Start of Nu Metal:
Helmet were genius, they continue to be genius even today. they greatly outshine all of the terrible terrible acts that have followed in their supposed foots steps. but just like with Faith No More, i don't see how they(or FNM) are really nu metal. a-helmet has solos, nu metal doesn't. anyways, this is classic rock/metal at it's best. own it now or forever be shunned.

Okay, some of you ppl are stupid. who gives the cd a 4 because you missed place the cd, and even said if i find the cd maybe i would give it a 5. you are such a moron. dont give a cd or a band if you dont know what you are talking about, or even if you did something to not like them. This cd is old school grunge music at its best, go buy this cd now if you like 90's rock!
