La première fois qu'Éric a entendu Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, c'était sur un mini K7, pour sa communion... Micky, lui, était batteur dans le Vaucluse et, en rentrant, du Discobole, il a passé six heures d'affilée à essayer de rejouer l'intro de "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)". Ça n'avait l'air de rien, pourtant il n'y arrivait pas... Une fille l'avait prêté à Benoît; le disque sautait sans arrêt mais en rajoutant une pièce de cinq centimes sur le saphir ça passait... Mick et Keith l'ont écouté ensemble et ça leur a un peu mis les boules... Pascal, c'était dans un restaurant ; il n'écoutait que du punk et de la new wave mais, quand même, ça lui rappelait quelque chose. Il est allé l'acheter en sortant du restaurant... Adèle, c'était chez son fiancé, un matin de mai, ça sentait le lilas. Son amoureux pleurait chaque fois qu'il écoutait la voix de Lennon sur le début de "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"... Most overrated Beatles album!:
The two other albums recorded at Abbey Road at the same time, S. F. Sorrow (Pretty Things) and Piper at the Gates of Dawn (Pink Floyd), are miles ahead of Sgt. Pepper. I'm a Beatles fan, but let's face it, there's a lot of 'filler' on this release, short of the opening three-song salvo, Within You Without You, and Sgt. Pepper Reprise/A Day in the Life. I'm sick of people lauding the Beatles' work simply because it's 'by the Beatles', Sgt. Pepper especially.

BUY IT, IT'S ONE OF THE BEST:
To read some guy state that except for 3 tunes the rest is filler I had to respond. Lets see Little Help From My Friends, Lucy in the sky with Diamonds, For the Benefit of Mr. Kite, Lovely Rita, Getting Better, She's leaving Home, When I'm 64, are filler's ? Get real ! This album set a whole new standard in popular music.

MASTERPIECE:
It is one of, if not the greatest albums in the history of rock n roll. What more is there to say.

A Crime:
When this came out in 1967 it was looked on as nice "pop" music by the "Stones" crowd. Little did we realize what a masterpiece. From the opening track till the last note of A Day in The Life even the filler has grown on me.

By 1967 The Beatles had become a studio band only as they had stopped touring the previous year,and so began in late 1966 the 129 days session of what would become the "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" album.At the time of release the band didn`t know what reaction from fans to expect as this was a make it or break it album for them,they had lost some fans previously and the future was uncertain.All that stress for nothing,Sgt Peppers turned out to be an incredible album that was exeptionnal at the time of release in the summer of love in 1967.This was actually a concept album and an idea of Paul McCartney`s truly,who wanted The Beatles to be a totaly different band for this particular release and the rest of the band went along with it.It made them experiment with things and do some different stuff like George Harrison did on "Whithin You Without You" in wich he experimented with nearly indian music and diverse instruments. That is not to say everybody agreed,Ringo said it was his least favourite Beatles album,but even they(The Beatles)didn`t realize how much of a masterpiece it was and it became one of the most praised rock albums of all time.It is ranked first on many lists of top albums(including the rock`n`roll hall of fame`s)so there is definatly something good about it.The album`s cover is what most people think of when you talk about the album,it was truly iconic at the time with all the celebrities on it,its impressive.For Sgt Pepper,what The Beatles did is say `hey why don`t we become a different band for this one?`and that`s what they did,for this album they were "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band".There was supposed to a chronological oder for the songs on the album according to Paul and `All the songs were already written and they just fitted in`,he said.Whatever the concept was or the order of the songs are,or were supposed to be its still a great album from beggening to end. As one could expect the songwritting remains excellent as it was troughout most of The Beatles`s albums and singles.They always kept it simple on that point,but still great wich is better than a lousy song with brilliant writting.Only they could do a song about fixing a hole and still make a good song out of it,wich they did on this album,yet they can make songs with a meaning and a message in it like they can do just a fun song with no meaning at all.That`s the magic of The Beatles,everything they do seems to work,at least for them.Sgt Peppers has great songs like the classic "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"(often said to be about LSD tought John Lennon said it wasn`t),or "With A Little Help From My Friends" sung by Ringo Starr(who does a great job on it!),"Getting Better" is a great song as well and so is "For The Benefit Of Mr.Kite!".I don`t really need to go trough each song to tell you how amazing this album really is,you probably already knew it anyway! Before this album,no one really considered rock`n`roll as art but with "Sgt Peppers" it all changed and it turned a few people`s head to see what was happening.This albums gets a lot of credit and its well deserved.Being a concept record it allowed them to be creative wich they certainly did,as some said those might be the most creative 129 days in the history of rock.In fact even the album`s sleeve was revolutionary!It changed the way other album sleeves were being made. The band had an unmatched impact on music and for the time it was Sgt Peppers was very important and put simply,this is a masterpiece,there is no denying it.Even if you like other Beatles albums more or you don`t even like them you have to understand that in the first place.I am conviced you will like Sgt Peppers and its definatly a must to any rock listener`s collection,you have to have this!All that can be said is that this album is truly great and it might not be The Beatles`s best but its certainly a masterpiece.5 stars at least.
