I LOVE ELO. I hate this compilation.: One of the greatest classic rock acts of all time was, without question, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). With a style that blended classical and classic rock, and Jeff Lynne's killer vocals, these guys shelled out some of the greatest tracks in pop rock history. This is one of the band's better-known hits compilations. Read on to see how it measures up. PROS: -There are a number of underrated masterpieces featured in this compilation that the casual fan has never heard before, but most definitely should. -It's affordable. CONS: -There just isn't enough material here. You can fit eighty minutes onto a CD, and this CD doesn't even approach that limit. -Where are Fire On High, Livin' Thing, Strange Magic, and Roll Over Beethoven? Can you really call it "ELO Classics" without these songs? OVERALL: I LOVE ELO, but this compilation is garbage. Shell out the extra cash and get the band's dual-disc hits compilation instead. With ELO, a single-disc compilation just isn't enough.
Great band, weak compilation: The only reason why this CD gets 3 stars instead of 2 is that ELO is one of the best bands in history and Jeff Lynne is one of the best songwriters/producers in rock history and this CD should have at least 18 cuts, I wish that they didn't edit out the intros to Boy Blue, Birmingham Blues and Ma Ma Ma Belle and I wonder how come songs like Turn to Stone, Strange Magic, Livin Thing, Do Ya and Shine a Little Love aren't on here. Fortunately we do have a couple of their underrated songs like Bluebird and Loser Gone Wild (which should've been on the Strange Magic Anthogoly). If you're a new fan of ELO, I would pick up Strange Magic: The Best of ELO cause it has 29 tracks from 1972-86 and the booklet is very informative.
