feel the boston garden move: hearing this now is just like when i was there for this show at the garden you can still feel the balcony bounce and see it bounce. see the lights flash when wolf says"we are gona blow your face out"and slide right on into house party if you were not there you will feel like you are there. so repuda da buda let down your hair and let me climb up to the lite of your love.
The Funkiest Band in the Land: I saw the band perform at the Worcester Centrum on Jan. 2, 1983. To this day the best concert I've ever seen. They started out with their more current pop-hits like Centerfold. After the Mayor came out and gave them the keys to the city, the Mighty J. Geils Band played the good stuff (this album and Full House) deep into the night. I don't think my rear-end touched the seat once during the entire concert. I dare you to try sitting still while listening to songs like 'Back to Get Ya.'
Still Blows Me Away: Blow Your Face Out should definitly be near the top of the TOP 5 Albums of ALL Time!!!! Every song is absolutely GREAT. The intro to Musta Got Lost is totally amazing. I can't single out any song more than another because you can listen from beginning to end and not find anything you don't like. I've liked this album since it came out (I wore out 4 copies of the album, thank God for CDs).
Live and Funky!: Recorded live in Detroit, Michigan at the Cobo Hall, and at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, "Blow Your Face Out" was the J. Geils Band's second live offering. It follows the success of 1972's "Full House" and it was released at a time when the band had reached a high level of popularity among fans for its incredible, fully- energetic live performances. This album contains 17 songs and back when it was released on vinyl (remember records?), it was a two- record set. The songs on this album are mostly fun, funky, good times rock and roll with rhythm and blues influences on many songs. The R & B is strongest on songs like "Where did our Love Go" (Cover of the old Supremes hit single), "So Sharp", and others. But the most memorable songs on the album are "Musta Got Lost", a song known for its introductory speech by lead singer Peter Wolf; "Houseparty", and all- out rocker that explodes from start to finish; and "Give it to Me", a funky tune with an R & B groove. This album does expereince an occasional low, and this fact prevents me from rating it higher. I don't care too much for the single "Truck Drivin' Man", with its country roots. "Sno- Cone" and "Back to get Ya" are also forgettable. They are average songs at best and they should have been left off the album. Overall, though, "Blow Your Face Out" delivers as a live CD. The music is mostly fun and energetic. It may not have the all- out, in your face, shake- your- body- every- which- way feeling that made "Full House" so enjoyable, but it's still better than your average live CD and it makes a great addition to any music collection. It's a must for any die- hard J. Geils Band fan!
Great sound, great songs. Great set: Opening with the swaggering R & B of "Southside Shuffle", "Blow Your Face Out" guides the listener through a dozen of the J. Geils Band's best songs (and a few less great ones). There's a muscular, swinging blues feel running through the entire album, and it draws from all of the band's first six studio albums. The hit single "Musta Got Lost" is marred by a witless, over-long intro by singer Peter Wolf, but the song itself rocks. And so do fine renditions of "So Sharp", "Give It To Me", "Where Did Our Love Go", "Wait", the harmonica-driven "Love-Itis", and the grinding blues-rocker "Shoot Your Shot". Less interesting tunes, like the monotonous "Detroit Break-Down", the tedious nine-minute "Chimes", and the instrumental "Sno-Cone", could have been substituted by some of the band's excellent original songs to make this an even better album, but most of what is here is great, including a (slightly truncated) rendition of the ballad "Start All Over Again". A good purchase for fans of the band, although the track list doesn't quite match their best studio albums. But "Blow Your Face Out" has got lots of feeling, and most of what's here is great fun.
