Great Jazz Trio: When I go to a jazz club to hear a good jazz trio, this is the type of program and musicianship I hope to hear....a good mixture of fast tunes, ballads and blues. When you consider the personnel, you know you're going to get some swingin' arrangements. This cd was one of those live performances where the audience and the musicians connected and the results are fantastic. There aren't ANY bad tracks but my favorites are the title track, "Tanga", "Brown's New Blues", and "When You Go". Jeff Hamilton is one of the best drummers around. Ray Brown has always been an all-universe bassist and in Benny Green, I hear Oscar Peterson (no surprise), Gene Harris, and just a bit of Red Garland. He "quotes" other tunes really well while improvising and brings the listener some delightful anticipation of what "surprises" might come next. I don't see how you can go wrong with this one.....especially if you like your jazz with great piano, bass and drums.
