[.ca] To Music

From Amazon.com:
A delightful collection featuring two of England's most beloved vocalists. Isobel Baillie was a high lyric soprano whose pure voice could be captivating in the right material, which is what she sings here. Kathleen Ferrier had one of the biggest, most sensuously beautiful alto voices on record. An unlikely duo perhaps, but they blend wonderfully in the duets--Purcell's "Sound the Trumpet" is delectable. In the solo songs, Baillie's pretty voice does justice to songs by Brahms and Grieg, but she's best in the folk material and music by Arne and Purcell. Ferrier is fabulous in everything, and this disc includes her first studio recordings, made in 1944 as test pressings for HMV. --Dan Davis
