Amazon.ca: If the Grapes of Wrath's debut, September Bowl of Green, sounded like a band searching for its sound, they found it with Treehouse, a 13-song disc full of jangly, pastoral guitar pop, hummable melodies, and terrific harmonies. Co-songwriters and vocalists Tom Hooper and Kevin Kane deliver songs that are airy, light, and imbued with the best elements of '60s British and American pop; you can hear the Byrds in "A Very Special Day" and the Beatles in "At Your Soul." Elsewhere, songs like "So Many Times" and "Seems Like Fate" recall Echo & the Bunnymen and the Smiths. This is thoughtful, folksy pop at its finest. --Adem Tepedelen
Pure magic...: Very few albums are close to perfect... but this is one of them. It's astonishing how much this band grew between their debut album and 'Treehouse'. As mentioned before, this is jangle-pop at its finest combined with gorgeous vocal harmonies. The three singles 'O Lucky Man', 'Backward Town' and especially 'Peace of Mind' are fine examples of this... but what pushes this album over the edge is the quality of the rest of the album... 'At Your Soul' is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard anywhere from any band. In my opinion, 'Treehouse' and 'Now & Again' are essential to any music collection. Check them out and get to know one of the most gifted bands ever to come out of Canada.
What the Hell?: When I first listened to "Now and Again," I thought it was one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Each song was worth listening to with a great hook. The band also have a great sound. So, I was excited to get "Treehouse," expecting at least some of the greatness of "now and Again." I was disappointed. Gone are the hooks, the sound, or anything like "Now and Again." There a few good songs but overall it was just disappointing. If you want to get an album by Grapes of Wrath, pick up "Now and Again" not "Treehouse."
