Stirring, but ultimately borrowed: James Horner has the reputation as a fine composer of film music, but he can also easily be placed in with John Williams, et. al. in the gamut of "film composers who blatantly borrow from classical music composers." Williams is primo facto enemy no. 1, but Horner has been known to dip into the 19th century music barrel from time to time for ideas. Alas, the soundtrack to "Willow" is one of these times. As well as the music works in the film, and I believe does, this reviewer just cannot get over the similarity between the 'Escape fromt the Tavern" theme and the third movement of Schumann's "Rhenish" Symphony. One would hope that he was not "phoning" this score in, but I cannot imagine I'm the only one to make this connection.
One of James Horner's Finest !: I fell in love with the music when first seeing the film ...tremendous and compelling music! A definite must buy!
James Horner at his best: All I can say is wow. This has to be the best soundtrack ever written for a motion picture. James horner's score for Willow is truely magical from beginning to end. The most memorable thing about htis soundtrack is the sweeping theme for Elora Danan. This theme is best used in the tracks Elora Danan . Simple the best worth every penny. If you are a true horner fan please by all means buy this cd. Oh yeah and it is also performed by the london symphony orchestra so the performane is great
Horners best work EVER!!: James Horner has established himself as the second best composer in Hollywood behind the living legend John Williams. Horner is most known for the excellent score he wrote for Titanic, but the music he wrote for Willow is his best work ever. The music on this soundtrack is wonderful. The horn arrangements are terrific. The brass work is incredible. Words can't give this song the justice is deserves. Willows Theme is amazing. The trumpets are fantastic in the song. It's very upbeat and fast. The melody is so awesome. It's a powerful song and is one of the best themes ever written. This song has stuck with me so many years. I commonly find myself whistling this song. You have to hear this song. Elora Dann is a beautiful song. It's slow and very moving. The melody is a great one and this another song you will find yourself humming or whistling after you hear it in the movie or on this cd. This is a fantasic soundtrack. It is James Horners best work that he's ever done. This is a must for movie score fans. You won't regret buying this one if you loved the movie or love music scores. It ranks up with the best ever done.
*sigh* The best I've heard!!: I don't have words, beyond the best I've heard! Along with the soundtrack for Cutthroat Island, I cannot say a word! Buy the soundtrack, it's unbelieveable fantastic!
