En fait, le nom de ce Chicagoan reste définitivement associé à la Freedom Now Suite: We Insist! qu'il a écrite en collaboration avec le batteur Max Roach, entre autres pour la voix d'Abbey Lincoln. Goes To Washington révèle un bluesman moderne et engagé sur le front des luttes de la communauté afro-américaine pour son émancipation. Puisant dans le terreau de la Great Black Music l'essence de sa musique (l'ambiance est ici globalement bluesy, jazzy, voire funky), Oscar Brown Jr. se fait commentateur virulent du contexte politique américain d'alors. The only live recording I know of and the best of the Oscar Browns I've collected on LP over the years. That man doesn't know how to write a bad song, or how not to swing. Quite my favorite entertainer. Muffled Drums is of it's time but not dated. Great it's now in the CD world. LPS don't really take 30 years of regular playing. It's a joy to find it hasn't been forgotten
