From Amazon.com: Perhaps best known for his soundtrack to Mrs. Brown, Stephen Warbeck's score for Shakespeare in Love follows a similar pattern: Elizabethan themes and light string melodies work together to span a spectrum of moods. And the romantic comedy, starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes, benefits from this sonic treatment. Drama is added (the opening "The Beginning of the Partnership" simply soars), but the score never gets too serious. --Jason Verlinde
The best part is missing: The score itself rates at least a 4 out of 5, for reasons others have already given, but I take off a point because the CD release doesn't include the street music.
So Good!: This is such a great disc...I can listen to it from start to finish without having to skip any inbetween. I have never seen the movie but since I love classical music I decided to get the CD anyway and try it out...well I love it and I would tell anyone who like classical to get it and listen to it so they can see what I'm talking about when I say this ablum is GREAT!
It is not possible to dislike this music!: I loved the movie "Shakespeare in Love," and the soundtrack in one of my favorite CDs. The music is absolutely beautiful and perfectly reflects the bittersweet moments of the film. My favorite track is definitely the first one, "Beginning of the Partnership," which is what I plan to walk down the aisle to for my wedding.
I'm Not a Classical Music Fan, But...: Once I saw this movie, I had to get the soundtrack. Although I'm not much of a classical music fan, the instrumentals are beautiful and relaxing and complement the movie wonderfully.
Blah: I listened to this whole CD at a friend's house. Being a fan of Medieval/Renaissance music, I expected very much to enjoy this CD. I was extremely dissapointed. It was terribly dull. Nothing sounded unique at all, or had any kind of Renaissance flare to it. To be blunt, it bored the hell out of me. I definitely didn't notice this music at all even as I was watching the movie. It never captured my attention in any way. Now I know why it didn't. Its the same wishy washy theme to every romantic movie. I recommend the sountrack to Elizabeth instead of this dull waste of time.
