weird als cool but come on he making fun of nirvana: usually i like weird al but the only song i dont like on this album is smells like nirvana. nirvana is cool come on..... but it does make me feel better that kurt OK'd it and that some of the band members liked it.
eh, but I love the cover: I didn't buy this, I borrowed it and I got to admit that some of this stuff is funny, but I mean I don't really take any of it seriously. The song "Smells Like Nirvana" is funny, and the video is pretty great. It's just that Wierd Al can't make his own music, so he has to make fun of other peoples. I loved his imitation of "Coolio", but I'm a huge Nirvana fan, but even though this album came out before Kurt died, I still find some of it offensive to bad mouth Nirvana, but I know that Kurt and the rest of the band loved that song, so I really don't care anymore about that. But I know Al didn't really mean much of it, it's just a game to him, which makes him a great artist. Over now today his mind is blown away since people stoped buying his record, especially of the disaster of "Couch Patatoe". But these are the golden days of Weird Al. I especially love the cover with instead of a baby (ripping off Nevermind) you got weird al there, and the back of this looks the same of Nevermind except for instead of a cat it's Weird Al. For hardcore Nirvana fans, if Kurt loved it, why can't you?
Smells like another hit!: Al once again will leave you rolling on the floor laughing with his 7th album. He just keeps getting stronger with each album. Smells Like Nirvana is a classic, and those Nirvana fans that hate it don't understand humor. He's just joking, and the band loved it, and said it was really funny. Kurt Cobain himself that he knew Nirvana had really made it when Al parodied them. Anyway, the album is great. The parodies and the originals are dead-on and really funny.
Nirvana fans, get off your high horse: Nirvana is ripe for parody just as any band is, and "Smells Like Nirvana" is a great song (Kurt Cobain and his band loved it, did you ever hear about that?). It is absolutely hilarious, just like "(This Song's Just) Six Words Long" on Even Worse. Nirvana should not be placed on a pedestal, and Weird Al proves that; isn't it obvious by now that nothing is sacred for him? Not that Nirvana is the greatest band ever, but that is not a factor for my decision because I love George Harrison's music too but died laughing when I heard Al's send-up. Also, the fact that this album has "You Don't Love Me Anymore" elevates it almost to the level of Polka Party, which has nestled in its tracks "Living With a Hernia" and "Christmas at Ground Zero." But "Smells Like Nirvana" is a stroke of genius, espcially the gargling during the guitar solo and the marbles, so quit bashing Al and loosen up; it's only music.
It's one of the best ALbums: This is a pretty good CD. It's Weird Al, so you know it's hilarious. But I'm writing this review in regard to those who think Al is "disrespecting" Kurt Cobain. Look at when it was made people. 1992! Before the unfortunate death of Cobain. Plus as he always does, Al asked for permission before he wrote the parody. So, Kurt said it's okay and was quoted saying he, didn't know they "made it" until Weird Al parodied their music... Anyway, now that I got that off my chest I can say this is a must have for any true Al fan. Not his best in my opinion but still there's good Weird Al and great Weird Al, no bad Weird Al.
