From Amazon.co.uk: While many of the new breed of folk musicians are constantly exploring new directions, there are just as many--and an equally large audience--whose aim is to maintain the status quo and preserve the tradition in its purest form. Listening to Waterford seven-piece Danú's second album "blind", it could easily have come from any point after the Chieftains' debut album in the late 1960s, such is its timelessness. The band's youth brings a boundless energy to the proceedings but the material and approach to it are firmly passed down from their musical forefathers. Tom Doorley's flute playing is hugely indebted to Matt Molloy's and is just as effective. The album covers a range of boisterous jigs and reels, all steeped in Irish musical history, plus a smattering of slightly less absorbing songs. Danú were voted the best live act of 2000 in one poll and are by far at their best when heading off at full steam, tempered by an undoubted musical virtuosity. For those who like their Irish folk straight down the middle, Think Before You Think may be indispensable. --Phil Udell
WOW!: I kept hearing a version of "Fair & Tender Ladies" on a local (Canadian) radio station and wondered who was singing that beautiful song!? After much digging on the internet I found out and what a joy to be able to buy this CD on Amazon.com. The whole CD is great, but buy it just for the heartbreakingly beautiful rendition of the song mentioned above.
Loads of talent and still young in album no.2!: Failte! (Greetings) I remember buying their first album through an Irish distributor years ago with the patronizing idea of simply contributing to young musicians following the traditional Irish Music way with accoustic instruments. However, my interest was perked in hearing the album. They had, and they still have very real, excellent talent. They have loads of talent and still young and going after album number 4 now. No patronizing is needed here. This is their second of what is now four albums. They have a website all Danu fans need to visit. Don't miss the photo of concertina playing in mid bubble bath! If you can catch them on a U.S. tour, they are wonderful. If you are of Irish descent discovering your roots, this is an excellent experience. Their tour dates are posted. Donnchadh Gough is one of my favorite Bodhan players. Having played Bodhran for years, his recent change to a double head (layered) Brendan White drum prompted me to do the same thing. He now sounds better than ever with a rich, deep voiced drum. This is one of the very best traditional Irish groups, and I am very happy as a veteran of this cause to see the "tradition" in traditional carried on into the new century by enegetic young people. Ceol de Erin go Bragh! ( Music of Ireland forever!)
Iontach! Which is Gaelic for Stunning!: I've seen Danu twice in the last month! They are that good! I have all three of their CDs, and I encourage you: don't hestitate, buy their CDs! Donnchadh's abilities on the bodhran outshine Colm Murphy of De Dannan! Tom is the next Matt Molloy, of Chieftains fame, Noel's fast fingers on the guitar are simply amazing, and Ciaran's voice is breathtaking (his explanations of the meanings behind the songs are also quite humourous!). Their solos are incredible, especially Donnchadh's! A daily dose of Danu will help keep the doctor, and old age away! Slan agus beannach De ort!
Grand!!!: This CD is just incredible! I cannot believe how talented these "fine gentleman" are!!! After meeting them and hearing them live, this CD was a must-have, but even if you've never heard or seen them, you definitely want to buy it. Their style is so uniquely energetic and enthusiastic, they bring a sense of "real"ness and "true"ness to the music. Just a warning though; they have a tendency to make you want to stand up and dance right along with them.
Absolutely the BEST celtic band ever!!!!: This is an awesome, awesome, cd. I am a HUGE fan of Danu, and have listened to all their cd's, but this is by far their best. If you like celtic music, you've got to get this one!!! Ciarin has a beautiful voice and all the lads are so, so, talented. If you have a chance, go to one of their concerts while they are on tour through the US!!! I got to go to one a few months back and it was just amazing. I met them all and they are really nice!!! Don't miss this great cd.
