[.ca] Live at the Blue Note

Warning! The audio samples are from someone else's record!!:
Believe me, I have the record and there's no tenor sax on it - not one lick!!! Excellent record, though (the real one). A great blend of latin styles-from Brazilian samba to Cuban songo to Argentinian milonga and some hard swing, Manhattan style!

The Best Latin Jazz Album I Own:
Never mind about the review which says that this album is for late night hours, he must have written this review for another album and posted mistakengly here. I wish that Paquito records more and more of these live recordings. The music written here is one of the better latin jazz compositions I have ever heard. The playing is wonderful. What makes this CD special is that Paquito is playing with a small combo "a quintet", not with a big "NOISY" band. The members come from different south american countries which gives this album an original latin flavour. If any reader knows a similar album by Paquito, then please drop me an emial so that I buy it.

Latin Jazz at its best:
Along with Chucho Valdes' "Bele Bele En La Habana", Cubanismo's "Cubanismo" (their first release), and Monty Alexander's "Goin' Yard", this is one of the top CDs I own. This ought to give you an idea of what I think of this CD and of my taste in general. A bit of background first. Paquito's stylistic range is very broad. In fact, I actually don't like some of his CDs, which I have bought and then given away. However, I think that "40 Years of Cuban Jam Session", except for the vocal tracks, is also a hell of a CD, albeit a little bit "ethnic" in style. I say all of this so you can see my perspective. This CD can best be described as refreshing Latin Jazz. It's all instrumental. The musicians are from all over the place (from Chicago to Curacao). The ensemble is tight as hell. This is not a typical Latin Jazz fair; the "Latin" sense is there, but the jazz is rocking; sometimes it feels like a 1970s fusion band, but then again, the Latin stuff always comes through. All of the cuts are entertaining; not a bad one in the mix. The musicians individually rock. The only aspect of the CD I don't like is that we don't get to hear enough solos. These musicians are all very fine performers. Paquito hams it up a little bit, though; his virtuosity permeates all the tracks.

GREAT:
DON'T LISTEN TO THE PREVIEW CUTS ANYWHERE! They are of the wrong cd...Most tracks on this disk are lively and upbeat! If you are a fan of Paquito or just love instrumental jazz, you will love this fast paced cd! Buy it NOW!

Amazing:
Here's what I mean by amazing: Thanks to earlier customer reviews, Amazon has known at least since last September that the sound samples here are for a completely different cd, but have not done anything about it. I also note that one customer has written her review and recommendation based solely on these wrong samples rather than on the actual cd -- a somewhat deceptive and troubling practice.
