[.ca] Brave New World

Chronique amazon.fr:

From Amazon.co.uk:
One of the most comforting things about living in the UK is knowing what you can rely on: bank holidays will be rainy, beans will be on the breakfast menu and Britain's homegrown heavy metal heroes will continue rocking well into their twilight years. Motorhead do it, Ozzy Osbourne does it and, with Brave New World, Iron Maiden prove that they can do it, too. Featuring the return of vocalist Bruce Dickinson, after his self-imposed, six-year exile from the band, Brave New World is the sound of classic Iron Maiden at their finest. The guitars--augmented by the addition of a third guitarist, Adrian Smith--still scream along at top volume, with their signature blistering solos and frantic time changes. Songs like hit single "The Wicker Man", the anthemic "Blood Brothers" and "The Nomad" all bear the hallmarks of Maiden's best work--that is, they rock. Brave New World is the triumphant sound of one of Britain's heavy metal institutions returning to the top of the heap. --Robert Burrow

Astonishing...:
And I mean this in a good way. I've owned this album since it came out (4+ years ago) and I still have not grown tired of it. Brave New World is how heavy metal music sounds when composed AND executed properly. Every band member gives a first-rate performance; Bruce continues to amaze with air raid siren vocals aplenty, whilst Dave, Adrian, and Janick deliver some powerful riffage and soloing. Of course, one cannot forget about the thundering rhythm section, courtesy of Steve and Nicko, both of whom could give Geddy Lee and Neil Peart runs for their money. All the songs are top-notch, but "Ghost of the Navigator" and "Blood Brothers" would be the top candidates for best track. Any fan of rock music should give this album a try.

Welcome back Bruce and Adrian !:
Just when we thought Heavy metal and Iron Maiden were slowly dying, life gave us Brave New World, the album that features the triumphant return of singer Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith. The classic line-up that produced classics like Number of the beast, Piece of mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in time and the best album of all-time 7th son of a 7th son, was back plus Janick Gers who replaced Smith in the realy 90's. This album is simply brilliant and proved that good music can still be made despite the horrible decade that was ending (the nineties). Here is a review of all the songs on the album : 1- Wickerman : Maiden is back ! Great opener. Very near the quality of Aces high and Moonchild. 10/10 2- Ghost of the navigator : Very nice follow-up. Brings a new dimension to the traditionnal Maiden. The riff is very similar to Ozzy's I don't know. 9/10 3- Brave New World : Beautiful song. Bruce's voice is stronger than ever. 10/10 4- Blood brothers : Another Steve Harris classic. 9/10 5- The mercenary : A fast rocker that, even though, is not a classic, does the job. 8,5/10 6- Dream of mirrors : A "new" Maiden kind of song. A great epic. Bruce's voice is almost over the edge. 9/10 7- Fallen angel : One of the reasons we love Adrian Smith, a good rocker with a great solo. 9/10 8- Nomad : A great epic with a wonderful instrumental break. This song could fit easily on Piece of mind. 9/10 9- Out of the silent planet : A fresh new Maiden song with a great acoustic intro. 9/10 10- The thin line between love and hate : The weakest song on the album. Some parts are very good, some are just OK. 7,5/10 Overall, the gift that die hard Maiden fans didn't expect. The band is stronger than ever, more mature, and Bruce's voice never sounded better. Also, the addition of Adrian Smith gives a boost to the quality of the solos that were a bit sloppy since his departure. If you liked Maiden in the 80's, buy this album, it's the same quality transposed in the second millenium.

Iron Maiden Back on Top!:
Brave New World (2000) is the first Iron Maiden studio album with Bruce Dickinson on vocals since 1992's Fear of the Dark, and the first Maiden album with Adrian Smith on guitar since 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Retaining guitarist Janick Gers (whose Maiden debut was 1990's No Prayer for the Dying) and longtime guitarist Dave Murray, Iron Maiden now features a "three axe attack." Rounding the rhythm is founder Steve Harris on Bass, and Nicko McBrain on drums. The Wicker Man - 100% Brave New World starts off with an instant classic! The Wicker Man is easily one of my favorite Iron Maiden songs, and features an excellent solo from Adrian Smith. This is Iron Maiden's triumphant return to the top! Ghost of the Navigator - 100% With a building intro and that crashes into the verse, this song is head-banging heaven, and by now, any doubts that Iron Maiden could ever re-capture their former glory are laid to rest. Brave New World - 100% The first three songs on Brave New World are one heck of a winning streak. Brave New World starts slow, and builds into a made-for-concert sing-a-long chorus. The title track builds into quite a heavy track, featuring great performances by the entire band. Blood Brothers - 100% Iron Maiden is really on a roll. Blood Brothers, the only track on Brave New World penned exclusively by Steve Harris, slows things down a bit. Said to be written about his late-father, this song is emotionally charged, and features some great vocals by Bruce. The last solo, by Janick Gers, is one of my favorite moments of the entire album, it just carries the song forward so perfectly. The Mercenary - 90% This song charges forward at a feverish pace, completely forgetting our few minutes of slow down with Blood Brothers. While this song doesn't quite live up to the standards of the first four, it's still quite good. Dream of Mirrors - 85% I've really grown to dislike this song over the course of listening to this album. It suffers from the same things that made The X Factor (1995) and Virtual XI (1998) so un-enjoyable... the song wanders on aimlessly, and is too repetitious. While there is some really good music here, the lyrics are just repeated over, and over, and never really go anywhere. If this song were 3 or 4 minutes shorter, it would've been a lot stronger. The Fallen Angel - 80% This isn't what I'd call a clunker, but it's still not very good. It sounds very similar to The Mercenary, it's just not quite as good. The Nomad - 60% Nomad only earns 60% because it's got some good instrumentation. It's otherwise a pointless, wandering song, suffering the same fate as Dream of Mirrors. It's rumored that three or four songs on Brave New World were leftovers from Virtual XI, I'm guessing this song, and Dream of Mirrors are two of them. The lyrics, and overall theme of this song, are quite frankly, pretty stupid. I'm glad this song was never played live. Out of the Silent Planet - 95% - Thankfully, things really pick back up with Out of the Silent Planet. While the lyrics aren't anything to celebrate over, there is some good music here, and a great guitar intro by Janick. This song, the second single from Brave New World, is fast paced, in your face Iron Maiden. The Thin Line Between Love and Hate - 100% This is an ultimate closer. While it's not really in the vein of the traditional Iron Maiden epic closer of the 80's, it's still quite good. This is hands down one of Bruce's best vocal performances of his career, and there's some good three axe attackin' here too. Brave New World, along with 2003's Dance of Death, are quite simply two of the best Iron Maiden albums ever. I highly recommend Brave New World for someone just getting into Maiden, a lot of the songs are pretty easy to listen to and quite enjoyable. The only thing I'd change about this album is The Nomad and The Fallen Angel, both of which would've been better suited as quite decent b-sides to the two singles from this album. If you like these songs, be sure to pick up Rock in Rio (2001) on either CD or DVD, because there's eight or so (going by memory here) Brave New World, and some of them, like the title track, shine even more live than in the studio.

AWESOME ALBUM!:
I really recomend this album to any metal fan, the strongest songs here are "Thw wickerman" "Ghost of the navigator" "Blood brothers" Brave new world" "Out of the silent planet". also listen to the solo or "instrumental" in the middle of The nomad, it is AMAZING, this show that Iron maiden has many sides to its music, not just heavy, but also extremely melodic stuff. other melodics from Iron maiden are Fear of the dark and Hallowed be thy name. Iron maiden always managed to get at least a few songs stuck in our heads (at least mine) from each album. overall this is metal at its best.

Greatest Album of all time.:
Brave New World is not only the greatest metal or maiden album ever, it is the best album ever with noone even coming close. "The Wicker Man" and "The Mercenary" can change your mood in an instant. A definate Must Have.
