[.ca] Sf Sorrow (Digipak)

Pretty Things - 'S.F.Sorrow' (Snapper Music):
Yet another CD I wound up with as I was recently going through my stack.Forgotten just as to how GOOD 'S.F.Sorrow' really is.Some say it's the first ever rock opera to make it onto a record.Call me crazy, but this album very much reminds me of the Beatles 'Sgt.Peppers' era. With it's rich harmony vocals, well written arrangements and catchy lyrics,it's hard not to thoroughly enjoy this MUCH under appreciated UK psychedelic band. From looking through the well assembled 18-page booklet,I can see that Pink Fairies drummer Twink appears on several tracks.Four bonus tunes are tagged on to the original lp that are JUST as good as the lp is.Songs I liked best were "S.F.Sorrow Is Born","Baron Saturday",the beautiful "I See You","Trust" and "Old Man Going".Worthy reissue,to say the least.

S.F SORROW is a MUST HAVE:
I can not believe how this Album by the Pretty Things was over looked in North America. Released at the Same time as The Beatles SGT. Pepper and Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn, this Rock Opera that inspired the Who's Tommy is Definitly one of the Greatest Albums I ve heard since Dark Side of the Moon. Just an Incredible Album right from the start with SF Sorrow is born, Private Sorrow and Death are 3 of the most psychedelic songs I have ever heard and each song gets better each time I hear them. The Bonus cuts are amazing Defecting Grey is Definitly a highlight song. The Pretty Things are awesome and a treat its as if the Beatles and Pink Floyd did a collaboration together and Made awesome mind blowing Music. The Pretty things deserve the respect and long over due credit as being one of the greatest bands and definitly S.F Sorrow is one of the Greatest Rock Albums Ever! This album is the kind of album that you can just throw on the stereo and keep listening to every song and you never want to skip a song.

The Great Lost Psychedelic album of the Sixties !:
Beatlesque harmonies, Rolling Stones grittiness, Kinks humbleness, Hendrix guitars, and early Pink Floyd schizophrenia, and, what's more, lots of things that would follow on: listen to the flute rhythms in 'Private Sorrow' and tell me this doesn't sound like vintage Jethro Tull; listen to the aethereal chantings in 'Trust' and tell me Peter Gabriel didn't rip this off for a section in 'Supper's Ready'; listen to 'Balloon Is Burning' and tell me this doesn't predict the chaotic jams of Yes;listen to the 'love love love' chants on 'Bracelets Of Fingers' and tell me this doesn't render Freddie Mercury superfluous. It provides you with everything that, for instance, Syd Barrett could never provide you with. The Pretty Things weren't the only band to go psychedelic after the Beatles showed the way, but they were the only band that were able to expand the theme of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' over the length of an entire album and get away with it'. 'Nuff said.

Awesome addition to any music collection:
Just picked this one up. Absolutely amazing! Highly recommended, esp. for tracks like "Bracelets of Fingers", "She Says Good Morning", "Balloon Burning", "Death", "Baron Saturday", "I See You", "Trust", and the brief yet effective closer, "Loneliest Person". Makes Sgt. Pepper (recorded at roughly the same time) sound quite banal and lightweight by comparison.

Brilliant LP...all mono(dammit) but you still need this!:
Sound quality and packaging is first rate. However, this brilliant LP is a stereo delight....beautifully mixed in stereo by Norman Smith in 1967....why issue it in mono????? If mono is so bloody important to Snapper, then they should've issued it as a two-CD set...including the mono mix (which they apparently like better) as well as the original stereo mix! By the way, the primary reason why this world's first whole LP rock opera bombed is two primary reasons: 1) EMI wasn't promoting it at all (heck, it wasn't issued in US for a year until Motown got their hands on it and screwed it up...., and 2) the storyline is just an amazing downer that noone would've been able to handle it during the "summer of love" era. A 100% negative storyline. The reason this is essential is the long-thought-lost full length version of "Defecting Grey", their first single for UK Columbia. All in all, worth having....I've got mine.
