could only tolerate it once....:
like most moonshine releases, aimed at a new techno-pop audience, they don't stand the test of time due to their lack of true musical vision and soul. Carl Cox, who I cannot deny has skills on the decks as proved in this mix, spins a bombardment of your typical hard-house tracks- all looped and filtered samples with no build-ups or brakdowns; nothing that would keep someones interest if it wasn't "mixed". I could only hear it once, when I tried to hear it again a second time, but found myself skipping through the entire cd.

a truly awful mix cd:
This is, by far, one of the worst mix cds I've ever heard. If this is what Cox sounds like live it would be a real waste of money. The most glaring problem is the lack of subtlety - every single track is high-energy and rather than taking a journey, the mix is in your face the whole time. Partially, the problem was listening to Cox's 'Sound of Ultimate BASE' mix the day before. That mix is exceptional, though not live. Obviously a lot of people like it, but you have to take those opinions with a grain of salt. What people really like live is often influenced by the live experience and everything that entails - the atmosphere, crowd, setting and everything else that make you feel like it's the best night ever. Anybody who loves to see Cox live will love this cd. If you've never heard him, I recommend the 'Sound of Ultimate BASE' mix instead. I will say, however, that perhaps this wasn't Cox's best night behind the decks, and he tends to play longer sets so there's only so much you can get into 74 mins. ps this is NOT 'deep house' by any means. It's a lot of good banging techno and house with nothing weaving it all together except a booming kick.

this is how a mix cd should be made!! live without much edits and what-nots...mixed live represents the way cox rocks the crowd: full of energy!! i wish the cd have a video in it also. to watch carl cox in person is an experience..

Techno...not deep house, not anything but PURE techno:
So many people are missing the point here. Carl Cox is not a "take you on a magical journey" kind of DJ. If you want that, get a John Digweed CD. Carl Cox is not a "respect to the classics" or "vocals you can sing along to DJ", if you want that get a Danny Tenaglia CD. Carl Cox is pure dancefloor mayhem and if you don't get it...it probably isn't for you anyway. Techno is the most hypnotic and trippy of all electronic styles, as it pounds you into submission...it also puts your mind in an altered state. It is not meant to slowly build, it is not meant to entice you quietly onto the dancefloor...it is meant to POUND YOU OVER THE HEAD...until the beats enter your subconscious and don't let go. Carl Cox is a true master behind the decks. He is tight in the mix (as tight as you can be when you are playing 25 tracks an hour on 3 turntables) and his programming is amazing. Along with Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and Dave Clarke...they have been the true ambassadors of hard, banging beats over the last 10 years. And he deserves all the respect and adoration in the world. If you want to relax and have a "mind altering" experience...look elsewhere. But if you want to rock out, get your groove on and have the music bang the hell out of your mind, body and soul...Techno is the soundtrack and Carl Cox is the maestro.

Music Ruined by Crowd Yelling:
Carl Cox is Awesome. He picks good vinyl to spin, and he does just that for this live recording, which is unfortunately ruined by very annoying screams and yelling from the crowd. Some crowd chatter during the intro of the CD is acceptable, but this album has it marring every track of this CD, which would have otherwise been masterpiece of Techno music. Somebody fire the sound guy who left the mic on during this recording, and tell that "chick" to quit screaming over all the good parts of the music! She made me waist $15 bucks, thanks a lot.
