From Amazon.co.uk: In an unprecedented worship experience, the City On A Hill project is a community effort which brings together top performers to glorify God. With an amazing roster of talent including Sixpence None The Richer, Jars Of Clay, FFH, Third Day, Caedmon's Call and others, this tender collection of songs is more than a showcase of separate worship styles. Many of the compositions are collaborative efforts between bands, giving the recording a distinct feel of common ownership among the musicians. And breaking from their usual energised styles, the performers take a different slant in these songs with most tracks offering an acoustically oriented and soft-sung vibe. Any fan will surely appreciate the witness of these industry leaders focusing their talents solely toward God and the new musical flavours that ensue. In conjunction with this CD, the book City On A Hill: Reflections On Our Spiritual Journeys, brings together journal-like entries penned by the artists, offering a glimpse into their inner-lives. --Israel Button
Worship: This is a great CD. It's great to be able to have praise songs with a beat. My favorite is Unified. Peter Furler did a great job with the lryics on Unified.
Fresh worship to the glory of G-d!: City on a Hill is an exciting compilation of a new, fresh kind of worship music. The music is not tainted w/pop music beats and music, but is rather a clean mix of rhythm, simple lyrics and a slightly modern beat. This music is not the typical "churchy" worship music. It is unique and stands alone in its own genre.
City on a Hill is a Must Have...: I love this CD. God of Wonders HAS to be one of my favorite worship songs of all time...and Mac Powell just brings it to another level. I also LOVE The Stone by Jars of Clay. He is my rock and my foundation.
A great compilation, but...: God is a God of wonders. And it's no doubt that there is great music here, and that the bands are talented. But there is something inhibiting about it all, and the CD is a bit over praised.
A great cd!: I have to honestly say that this cd went way beyond my expectations. I had thought we might get a couple of good songs, but this cd is full of them - with dream team-ups from some of the biggest Christian bands out there. "God of Wonders" starts this off and blows it out of the water. I also loved "I Remember" with Mac Powell's soulful vocals bringing the song into the level Gene Eugene wanted it to be when he wrote it. There are just too many good ones here to mention, but I have to say that if you like this sound, you should check out the two bands that the producers (Mark Byrd and Steve Hindalong) are in ("Common Children" and "The Choir" respectively). Both bands continue this vein of deep lyrics and great guitar work. While there just aren't any hard rockers on this cd, it's great for insightful lyrics and music for devotion time. Highly recommended!
