[.ca] Indigo Girls

if only i could give 9 stars:
i belive this is one of their best DVD/video releases yet. The only regret i had while watching was the fact that they didn't play chickenman. Though better to see them live and in person, this is a great DVD for those who can't get out to their concerts; and even better for those who attend the concerts, but can't get the music out of their minds. For all those out there reading this who have never seen chickenman performed live, go to a concert, it is worth it. Amy and Emily positively go nuts on stage.

Live At The Fillmore: A Must Have For Any IG Fan:
Live At The Fillmore is an excellent example of just how talented Amy and Emily are as musicians! There are plenty of close-ups showing Amy and Emily's fingers flying right through the songs. The show is interspersed with live interviews in which Amy and Emily get to share their thoughts on many topicsfrom how long they've known each otherto what inspires them to keep active in grassroots organizing.Live At The Fillmore allows you to witness Emily practicing Airplane withtheir band. My favorite songs on here (in no particular order): Scooter Boys, Shed Your Skin, Shame On You, Cold Beer and Remote Control, FAYE TUCKER, Galileo (Although Emily does sound kind of tired at first.) PHILOSOPHY OF LOSS is such a gem...Emily just sounds and looks SO SINCERE you know she's singing from her heart. The way this DVD was filmed leaves something to be desired....like theykeep taking the camera OFF Amy and Emily to get the chandelier in. I've taken two stars off for that.Otherwise this show is an absolute must have for ANY DIE-HARD IG fan...or even if you just want to get to know the music of these two very wonderful women! Happy viewing!

Indigo Video Rocks Too:
Let's face it, anything with Amy and Emily is pretty much destined for greatness. This video is no exception. Filmed at the Fillmore in Denver, it does a good job of showing why the Indigo Girls are so compelling. Nothing can match the energy of a live show, but this comes as close as you can get.

Great DVD for any IG fan:
This was a great DVD with a lot of special features, including bios, discography, and lyrics. I've seen them in concert many times, and this DVD is not as good as the real thing, but its still great. I think the best song on the DVD is Least Complicated, beause of the great audience participation. The only disappointment is that, for some reason, "Closer to Fine" was not from the concert. I don't know why, I am guessing the footage somehow couldn't be used. In its place they have Amy and Emily in a studio with their guitars singing it. It wasn't bad, but I would much rather have it in concert.

A great way to enter the world of Indigo:
For all of us living in countries that the Indigo Girls don't seem to grace with their presence, this video release is a God send. It's a concert video interspersed with interview and backstage clips. It lasts a good 91 minutes, which of course is never enough for us obsessives! I have the DVD version and I was very impressed with the picture quality and the sound. The sound is simply amazing!! In my short experience with DVDs, this has got to be the first one that's made me sit up and take notice of the full Dolby Digital mix. Throughout, there are clearly different sounds coming from each speaker. There is superb separation in sound with Amy clearly coming out of the left speaker and Emily coming out of the right; the positions they normally stand on stage. The setlist is heavily skewed towards the Come on now social album, but the Girls explained in an interview clip that they tend to fill half of their set with new songs if they're touring on the back of a new album release. And although I'm not the biggest fan of that album, seeing the songs performed live has given me a new impetus to revisist the album. I felt that the cameras appeared to favour Emily a lot more than Amy in this video. There are some nice close ups of her fast fingers at work during her blistering guitar solos. Amy looked very intense during many songs and almost scared me when she stared right into the camera. Ooh, those eyes!! The interview clips were great, with the Girls talking about their fans, their relationship, their activism and their philosophy among other things. They answered a lot of questions that I think all fans want to ask. I do have a couple of reservations about the video though. Firstly that the video is too slickly edited. No in between song banter or even guitar changes were left for us to see. OK, they may seem superfluous to non fans, but I think those things add character to the show. Secondly, we all know that the Girls enjoy a special relationship with their audience, yet I feel that this video doesn't convey this at all. Probably a result of the editing, but there was also a significant absence of audience shots. However, regardless of my reservations, this video is a great way to enter the world of Indigo and see what great musicians the Girls are!
